Buffet Day + Día del Buffet [Eng+Spa]
It is a very calm and pleasant Tuesday that I have had today, it is January 2, so the atmosphere is still quite relaxed, as if we were having a New Year's hangover. My personal #life has few relevant things to share today, so I can actually go directly to commenting on the topic of the anniversary that I chose for today.
In this matter of commenting on something from the #History of each day, it really shows that I have focused on the area of #food, or on #kitchen things. I don't work directly in these areas, but I find their history interesting and I tend to learn interesting details about these topics. Precisely, today is 'Buffet Day'.

Es un martes muy tranquilo y agradable el que he tenido hoy, es el 2 de enero, así que el ambiente aún es bastante relajado, como si pasáramos una resaca de Año Nuevo. Mi #vida personal tiene pocas cosas relevantes que compartir hoy, así que en realidad se puede pasar directamente a comentar sobre el tema de la efeméride que escogí para hoy.
En este tema de comentar alguna cosa de la #Historia de cada día, en verdad que se nota que me he enfocado en el área de la #comidao, o en cosas de #cocina. No trabajo directamente en estas áreas, pero encuentro interesante su historia y suelo aprender detalles interesantes sobre estos temas. Justamente, hoy es el ‘Día del Buffet’, o Bufé si lo decimos en correcto español.

The original term, to designate this form of self-service food, is of French origin. The Buffet is a designation that appeared in the 19th century (although there are earlier traditions that speak of almost the same style of serving food). It is related to the idea of placing a certain variety of trays and platters with food on a long table in the dining room or meeting room, whether cold or hot.
Diners would have the freedom to serve whatever food they wanted on their plates, which is why it is always related in my mind to self-service. Something that is reinforced by the point that since the mid-20th century, it has been related to the idea of businesses that offer 'All you can eat'. It is a very American idea, but it has spread to many parts of the world.

El término original, para designar esta forma de comida por autoservicio, es de origen francés. El Buffet es una designación que se presenta en el siglo XIX (aunque hay tradiciones anteriores que hablan casi del mismo estilo de servir la comida). Se relaciona con la idea de colocar en una larga mesa en el salón de comedor, o de reuniones, una cierta diversidad de bandejas y fuentes con comida, ya sea fría o caliente.
Los comensales tendrían la libertad de servir en sus platos aquellos alimentos que desearan, de allí que siempre se relacione en mi mente con el autoservicio. Cosa que se refuerza con el punto de que desde mediados del siglo XX se relaciona con la idea de comercios que tiene la oferta de ‘Todo lo que puedas comer’. Es una idea muy americana, pero se ha propagado en muchas partes del mundo.

I used to go with my closest sister to eat at a place like this a couple of decades ago. That brings back good memories, she no longer lives in the country, and I don't really leave the house much these days, so I don't frequent these establishments anymore.
I suppose that in 2024, this situation may change a little, so I may have to eat on the street again on some occasions. Let's hope my budget works and my accounts don't get out of control.

Yo solía ir con mi hermana más cercana a comer a un sitio de este estilo hace un par de décadas. Eso me trae buenos recuerdos, ella ya no vive en el país, y yo realmente no salgo hoy en día mucho de casa, así que ya no frecuento estos establecimientos.
Supongo que en este 2024 que comienza, esta situación puede que cambie un poco, así que puede que me toque en algunas oportunidades comer en la calle de nuevo. Esperemos que mi presupuesto funcione y no se me descontrolen las cuentas.

La idea del servicio en esta manera se me hace bastante cómoda. Aún recuerdo esa cadena llamada Kilomania, se cobraba por el peso la cantidad de comida dentro del plato.
Creo que aún quedan locales de esta franquicia, pero no estoy seguro, he visto otros locales con una idea semejante, pero no he vuelto a comer en estos lugares.
