Twigs, always the damn twigs

A fun theme for this week's SMAP: Birds and twigs! And apparently, I served as an inspiration, so extra thanks for the theme @nelinoeva! :)

So, talking about the damn twigs... it wasn't that hard to find photos with them! Not counting the amount of not-so-great photos in basically all my previous birdwatching/photography sessions that involved trees, in my last vacations twigs seemed to be omnipresent. But hey, still managed to photograph a cool species for the first time!

Eurasian siskin - Spinus spinus

Eurasian siskins have really bright colours, and only appear in Portugal during the winter. I got a little bit frustrated because I've seen them all over the place, and wasn't able to get a photo that I really enjoyed... and can't even blame the damn twigs. Here is how I usually saw them:

Foraging on the ground, perching on the trees; of course, behind twigs 99% of the time, where else. At least I was able to see them, I love how striking those colours are, especially the contrast with the black cap.

Lots of finches... and lots of twigs: story of my birdwatching sessions, this time.

I could go on complaining on the damn twigs alone, but I will join the damn tits in the mix!

Long tailed tit - Aegithalos caudatus

Join a bunch of twigs with a little tit with itchy feet... and these are the kind of photos you get! This one was taken in Italy, so it isn't just a portuguese tit thing.

He showed off the long characteristic tail, but no way I could get a photo with a clear view here.

I did saw long tailed tits in these last vacations, near the siskins; guess what they were doing?

Staring at me, behing the twigs! Typical... but I can't be mad at them; as with the siskins... I love tits too! 😏

First let me thank you for planting the idea in my mind. 🙂
The twigs may be always a problem, but are they really? Look how many stories they bring.
Last year I saw less siskins. The year before they were plenty and for my delight gave me a chance for some decent shots.

Maybe I'll get another (photographic) shot at them this year!

I learnt here on Hive that there are different kind of birds and this one I’m seeing here now sounds strange to me including its name
Thanks for sharing

I myself love to take pictures like this, especially when the birds are sitting like this, it looks so beautiful.
