Taking a step back in time

Seeing the way this year is unfolding, I realise there are a ton of posts I want to do, but still haven't found the time/will/disposition to do them.

Sharing some of my experience in Belgium belongs to that category: a country I wouldn't place high on my places-to-see list, but travelled due to work, and ended up loving it.

From the fairy tale town of Brugge, to a a beautiful mix of the old and new in the amazing Ghent (where I stayed most of the days), and also in the country's capital Brussels, there were little and not-so-little gems all over the place; and a monomad challenge seems a perfect way to shed some light into them.

Even the details in the cozy hotel room I stayed were so nice: just look at the way the normal and frosted glass in the window created postcard images!

And have you ever seen... a dragon handrail?

A beautiful detail, found somewhere in Brugge, as I wondered in those crowded streets. Yes, because as in most typical towns nowadays, turism seems out of control. Not that I can complain, since I was adding to those numbers, right?

Another thing unrelated to a specific place, but that Belgium is well known for...

... is chocolate. Countless chocolateries, with shapes and flavours for all kinds of tastes. And trust me, the chocolates do live up to their fame! I better not digress about them, because my mouth will start to water; better focus again on the architecture, since ancient buildings were probably what I enjoyed the most, and in some parts of Ghent and Brugge, you seemed to be in a different era.

I feel I could do a whole series of post just focusing on a different theme. But this way, you have a good general idea of why this country should be included in your travels, especially if you live in Europe.

And if you do visit and love the country as I did... share some of the love, and let your friends know about it! Either using this great platform, or the old fashion (and for me, even better) way:

Or better yet... do both! ;)
