Salt
Ilha do Sal literally translates to island of the Salt. And now that almost 4 days have passed, I'm wondering why did it took me until now to visit this archipelago!
Enjoying the island more and more: the people are really friendly, and although I miss the nature part, it still has a lot to offer. After taking an island tour and learning more about the history and the island itself, it's clear where the island's name comes from.
Salt flats are abundant, and probably what the island produces more. The landscape is incredibly arid, and the rain is rare: our guide told us that it rained last year... for the first time in SIX YEARS!! Almost everything the island consumes is brought from outside, since it's hard to grow anything here! Most stuff comes from the other islands, through this main port, located in the town of Palmeiras.
Fishing is also a strong activity in the island, since there's no shortage of fish all around.
While cruising through the island, it's clear how arid the island is. Don't think I have ever been in a place with such sparse vegetation, this is the nature part that I miss here.
Focusing on the cool parts, there's also amazing beaches, with clear waters.
The towns have nice street art, with phrases in criolo, the traditional language, and depicting traditional scenes and artists.
And the underwater scene is pretty nice as well! Finally dived today, and although I didn't saw as much marine life as I was hoping, encounters with big pufferfishes, trumpetfishes, and big stingrays made for pretry good dives. There will be more tomorrow, and will try to take a lended camera and take some underwater photos.
For now, it's time to continue enjoying the island, and snap some more photos for a better presentation of this pearl in future posts. As for the sunsets... they're still awesome! 😉

Those salt pans remind me of Malta but rain is definitely not that rare over there, it actually rained pretty much the whole winter the year that we lived there :D :/
The street art looks cool! Glad to know you have been enjoying your vacation :) If everything goes as planned, I will join you soon (but on some other island :D)
Back to the (cold) reality. Have a drink for me when you reach your island! ;) !BEER

It looks like a really interesting place to be, and those beaches are gorgeous! Fish, but few birds? I'm glad you got to dive today. I'm still trying to imagine no rain in 6 years. Where does their drinking water come from?
Very few bird species, but managed to get a few shots of their endemic sparrows. Water comes from other islands, but mainly by treatment of salt water. It's incredible how arid the island is.
