Some more beautiful scenery.

We certainly live in a lovely area and nature is in abundance.

I will show you the reason for that dark cloud above the farm lands.

Come drive with us on this outing and I will also show you a teaser about our destination at the end of this post. We have a multitude of grape, olive, and fruit farms here and the place is alive with nature.
It is a sheer pleasure to see the sights as we travelled along to another town. Wonderful views that please the eye and beauty all around.
Come and look.

Here was the reason for that dark cloud in the first photo.
149.JPG

Farmers collect their waste from the lands in a heap and in an open space with no trees or vegetation around the open space. Then they apply for a burn permit and wait for a wind still day. They call it a controlled burn and it takes care of all the waste.
150.JPG

We were soon past the burn and you can see the early morning mountains.
154.JPG

Here we turned off the main road and now we were on a farm road.

185.JPG

We were nearing our destination, and as you saw above there are many lovely scenes in the photos above.
259.JPG

This was the first sight that we saw at our destination.
258.JPG

Finally, just have a look at this beautiful sculpture.
238.JPG

A famous artist owns this farm and his sculptures can be seen all over the place. The silence and the closeness of the mountains gives one a serene feeling and it is as if each sculpture can speak to a person.
I hope that I have made you very inquisitive about this farm and I will soon do a post to show you all the sculptures.
Like I said above, there are many farms around here and some owners and their families are artists and they display their wares on the farms.

A place where one can travel around and discover some amazing things. Farms also have restaurants and wine tasting rooms, and I have shown you some before, but there are many more farms for us to investigate. For now, this post only serves as an introductory to what you are going to see when I post the sculptures and tell you the artist's story.
We love to be out in nature and to travel around all over the area, as there is clear mountain air that is healthy for the lungs.
I hope you have enjoyed the photos and the story.

And That's All Friends.

Those burns are here in Spain too, but only do the farmers that on their own land. So you have the fires everywhere. Now it gets hotter here they are not allowed to do that in the summer until October.

Great trip around. Beautiful scenery and sculptures @papilloncharity 😊

Hey there old friend! What a nice place to visit! It's funny to see the vine in that stage, when we in Europe barely got out of winter 🙂

The other day I remembered the old days and was thinking what was the name of the lady you used to post about. She used to be a model and used to donate to you and also visit the charity. She was blond with long hair but can't remember her name. You must know who I am talking about. You used to call her Lady .... 😊

Hello Lady Erikah, wow but you have a good memory and it's true that women can remember better than men.

Things are totally different here compared to Europe as we are preparing to enter winter and all of the grapes have already been harvested.

Regarding your excellent memory that was a long time ago and I had to ask Marian for Lady Corrine's name. We have lost touch with her a long time ago.

Glad that you reminded me how long you and I know each other 😊

Haha! I bet you've not expected anyone to remember those posts, but I do and now that you mentioned, it was really Lady Corrine. I remember you once wrote she told you she made a little money modelling and wanted to give it to the charity and there were also photos about what you or her bought to the kids.

Oh God! How many years was that? was it 5 or 6 years? Don't tell anyone 🤫

I'm not sure I have a good memory, but I remember certain things 🙂

Amazing is all that I can say, as we have had so many adventures since that things totally slips one's mind. I should make contact with her again and ask her how things are.
You even remember the details and In am flabbergasted.

We relocated to another province and sold up to a big missionary church group that continuous to run the projects in our our old building.

Now we have started some new projects over here and you can see the latest one in the pinned post on my blog.

We have the burns here too, out on the Shore where the other house is. It is more rural and it is the only way to make some of it go away. Usually, they do it after rain, and not in the dry season, but definitely no wind.

I love that the artist shares his work like that, even though it is part of a business, he doesn't need to display them as he does. What a wonderfully beautiful place and it emanates a peaceful aura. I am glad you and Marion get out and enjoy your amazing country.

Thank you for sharing it and for the story behind it. I look forward to the next chapter! Have a wonderful day ahead!

Amazing how the burns take place all over the world in the same manner Lady Denise.
Like I said somewhere else, our problem is the wind, as it can arrive suddenly with no advance warning.
One moment it is quiet and the next moment it howls. Very bad when a burn is in progress, as the wind can spread the sparks for miles around.

I think the artist places his work out like that as one day he is going to retire and then he can look at his life's work every day. It is so great just to sit on a bench in the lee of the mountain and to stare at the surrounding beauty. Thankfully the farm is not far from us, about a 30 minute drive and we spent about 1 hour there.

I placed the second chapter today and I will spare you the search.

I don't like the smoke cloud, but the others are beautiful as always, Zac, and the landscape is beautiful as always.

Here the farmers also burn the waste on the fields, but sometimes they don't only burn the waste they are allowed to burn, but also old tires and other things that make black smoke clouds and don't smell very nice 😏

Oh yes, it does spoil the scene and glad that you liked the rest my friend.

Yes, farmers will be farmers but luckily they don't burn tires here. The problem that we have here is that a strong wind can suddenly pitch up out of nowhere and then it blows the sparks far and wide.
We saw such a fire when we lived over the mountain, as some laborers were burning waste and suddenly the wind arrived to burn half of the farm land. Luckily the guys were quick to respond with water tankers and they managed to kill the fire.

Cheers and thanks.

You're very welcome, my friend 😊

I don't like to burn fires outside or near a forest. Many times the wind has blown sparkles towards the trees, but we have always been lucky.

Thank you my friend 😊

Same here, as we make no fires at all, unless we next to a dam in a large open place. Veld fires that people make are the most dangerous.
But there are many reasons for fire starters, such as lighting, and of course the severe heat of the African sun. Arson is also a problem.

Glad that you guys have always been lucky, as I think that it must be a horrible feeling when one by accident start a huge wild fire.

Cheers and thanks.

Cheers and thanks.

I hate it when people make fire near woodland, no matter how much they care, and I'm happy that we have always been lucky.

Lightnigs as fier starters and the other reasons don't happen often here, especially not the heat of the sun 😁

If only people will realize the danger Hannes. We had a huge fire last year that destroyed forests and heritage buildings that were more than 100 years old.
Then we also have people that deliberately start fires so that it will burn the trees, as they want to build houses where the trees were.

Hahaha, no I don't think that you have ever had a fire that was started by the heat 0f the sun and lightning must be foreign to you guys 😉

Cheers and thanks.

People are stupid, that's all I can say here.

We know lightnings though, and sometimes you can see a burnt tree that was hit by a lightning, but I can't remember a forest fire that was started by one.

It can happen to all of us Hannes if we don't take care. The issue that I have is that people deliberately start fires. Arson as they call it. If I was in charge I would set up drone patrols every day and night in the fire areas.

Maybe it's too cold there for sparks to have an effect. Over here in fire season everything is tinder dry.
Just imagine a buck running along and it dislodges a stone that rolls downhill. A sure fire starter, as the stone collides with other stones and there are sparks that set dry grass alight.

On other cases there are broken glass bottles laying around that can act as a magnifying glass in the sharp sunlight and that can also set the grass alight.

Cheers and thanks.

We are also often having dry weeks in Summer when people are not allowed to burn fires and take care when they smoke, but it's certainly not as dangerous dry as in Africa, I believe.
I have just had a look and there have been 159 forest fires in 2021. I wouldn't have guessed such a high number, but they have certainly counted every single tree that has burned 😉

You are right Hannes the heat from the sun in Africa is much worse.

I also just had a look and how's this?
In only the Western Cape Province of South Africa we had the following totals for 2021.

1978 fires at informal townships.
1458 fires at formal residential homes.
9034 vegetation fires.

So even I am dumbstruck by these totals 😮

Cheers and thanks.
