Some lovely birds today.

By now some of you know the bird that we call "sixy", and if not come and meet the little show star.

He sat high up in the morning sun, dressed in his mating suit and singing away.

He is named sixy because of the number of wives that he has during mating season. He gathers them all together every day and then sits up high to watch and protect them while they are feeding. A fierce protector of his territory and beware any other bird coming into his space.
A very brave little guy and I have seen them taking on and attacking much bigger birds. He doesn't sit still for long and flits around all over with his long tail following him.

The bird is a Pin-tailed Whydah and the specie name is (Vidua macroura).

Now here's an interesting short story: We lived on an apple farm about 4 years ago and another sixy and his wives were also there. The sixy came down to sit on the grass lawn and a cat tried to get him. Sixy got away, but the cat pulled all of his tail feathers out. So I kept an eye out for him and lo and behold! His tail grew back over a few days to it's entire original length.

Now I know that lizards can grow their tails back, as they lose them when attacked, but it was the first time that I saw that sixies can also grow their tails back.

Yeah, I posted about the growth of his feathers a few years ago and it was so amazing to see how his tail grew back to its full length.

Good to be home for this period, but back in again next week for another scope.
I have tried to recruit a second finger, but they work worse than your co-worker and my typing finger decided to do it all by himself 😜 !LOLZ

Good evening Zac,

it's a few days later, but I really didn't feel like going online. Saturday was rainy and Sunday a bit better, so I was out for photography, but I didn't take a lot of photos - can't find my Mojo it seems. It must have stayed in the Dolomites when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

Worse than my co-worker? Well, in that case I also would do it all alone and I even wouldn't go on holidays anymore 😂 !LOLZ

Today's my first free day of 2 weeks off - guess how the weather is... it's raining heavily here 😭 At the moment I am in the Dolomites again and will spend the night on top of "Passo Giau". The rain destroyed my hopes for nice sunset photos, but the forecast looks promising for sunrise and hopefully I can find my Mojo here 😁
It's getting cold inside the car but my sleeping bag is cozy and warm 😀

Since it's next week already you'll have your next appointment in hospital. Hopefully this time they will find the reason and everything will soon be fine 🙏🤞

My next hospital was cancelled, as the specialist surgeon is away for this week, without notifying us.
He said that he would contact us today, but as he had not done so, we phoned his consulting rooms and his secretary told us that he was away.

yesterday, I have come home late and got up early this morning - didn't take any mentionable photos though. In the afternoon I made a little trip with my wife and now it's getting dark outside.
Haven't found my Mojo in Italy, but I got this photo there ...

Oh, I hope he'll be back sooner because I hate waiting anyway, and when it's about health, waiting is even harder, although I know you are th emost patient person in the world 😉

Actually, I slept quite well in my car in the Italian Dolomites, but you are right, I have missed my cozy bed 😂

I wanted to go north to the North Sea or to the East Sea but such a long trip of about 2,000 km needs more planning and I think I'll do it sometime next year. This year I'll stay in area which I somehow know ... and that it quite close to my bed at home, of course 🤣

Seeing the doctor that did the operation tomorrow morning at 10:30 am. I am experiencing some setbacks and I hope that he will sort it out 🤞

Give it time, as you will get used to sleeping in the van and gradually you will also start to improve on the bed in the van. So over time it will become your second home 😉

Yes, you are right as a 2000km trip is going to take special planning. The good thing about it is that you can plan your sleep over stops at some special places. This year is basically done as it is only a matter of 9.5 weeks left of the year, so yes, it is best for you to do only short trips whenever you can. Practice makes perfect and the short trips will teach you what you need to know for the long trips 👍

After a rainy day and night the weather was very nice the next morning, so that I could take this photo. Everyone takes this shot, so I had to take it too 😁
It's only a small muddy puddle and I had to clean a lot of mud in the water later in Photoshop 😂 !LOLZ

Yesterday, I have been in Slovenia where I visited a huge waterfall and a gorge near the town Tolmin.
In the evening I was then too tired to turn the computer on, and this morning I went for a hike on a mountain in the Nockberge (Nock Mountains).
Now I am having a lazy afternoon on the balcony - it's very warm and sunny 🌞

After sleeping and cooking in the van for a few times I know what I have done wrong or what I should make better ... I think I will not have boring days this Winter 😉

Great news thus far, as the doctor is happy with my progress. Now I say thus far, as on the 14th I am booked for another procedure in their search for the origin of the bleeding in my abdomen.

I am glad that the weather was nice the next morning and you are becoming a master with your Photoshop tricks in the photos 😉 !LOLZ

It seems that you are very busy with your outings to interesting destinations and I look forward to the photos, if you are not too lazy to post them 🤣

Yep! Like I said practice makes perfect and you are preparing very well for the longer trips. People also have some small gas operated fridges and a host of other aids in their vans these days. Times have certainly changed due to all of the new camping products on the market my friend and you can make your van a home away from home 🌞

Yep, I'm trying to do as much as I can while I'm off work, but I have no idea where I'll go tomorrow - I decide later or in the morning.

I have a cooling box that I can plug into the caror to my power bank but I haven't used it yet - when I go on y longer trip I'll take it with me.

In the past two years the numbers of campers have increased a lot. So, most states have decided to no longer accept wild camping. This is also a reason why I have this caddy that doesn't look like a camper van at all.

A busy day for me, as I was told by the doctor to walk and today I walked about 4 kilometers. Still small niggles, but no cramps and only a little pain. Now for 5 and then 10 kilometers and I am happy 😊

A bit of bad news is that the camera can only check the main colon and if nothing is found, then they will have to operate to see if the bleeding fault is in what they call, the inner colon.

With your Photoshop skills you can make muddy waters clear waters and not everyone can do that 😉!LOLZ

Now that's what I call a magnificent photo my friend, and it feels as if I am right there watching that water cascading down. Wonderful! 😀

Yep, cooler boxes are also very popular nowadays. I think that I told you about one of Marian's wealthy cousins. He sold his 5 bedroom house and bought a mobile camper. Now they travel all over the country and he can work anywhere as his office is also in the camper. They have a small scooter that straps onto the back of the camper and they use that when they need to visit the shops.

A good idea to keep the van incognito, as that can prevent many problems 😉

It's the highest waterfall in Slovenia, I think over 140 meters high, and it is really loud.

Yep, you have told me about him and I would love that, but my work wouldn't allow such and I don't think my wife would accompany me 😭

Yes thank you and it was a great relief and today I feel it a bit my friend. The problem is that they still have to find the bleeding part, as the tests revealed that I have a constant loss of iron.

So I presume that you went and dug the mud out by hand 🤣 !LOLZ
At that height the water would come crashing down, moaning all of the way and over here at the Victoria waterfalls, they say that it sounds like thunder. In fact, the locals call it the place of thunder.

Ah okay I forgot that I told you and Marian agrees that in a few years time we could try the same. It would be so great to travel all over the country from the oceans to the deserts and everywhere in between 😉

Sunday was unexpectedly a bit wet and even the weatherman didn't know about it 😜

I am sure they will find a simple to cure reason for the loss of iron, and in the meantime you should try to first eat your soup with a spoon and when you're finished you should eat the spoon - enough iron for a day, I believe 🤣 !LOLZ

The Victoria Falls are way bigger and louder, but in springtime when the snow melts in the mountains or after heavy rains this waterfall is really awesome.

Oh yes, you should do that - just imagine all the places you could see and you can stay anywhere and as long as you want 😀

My Sunday was just a lazy day and we are having best Autumn weather. This October was the warmest October ever.

At the moment I am laying in my Caddy and I am extremely tired - I have made a nice hike in the Dolomites where I was last week, but 5 hours of hiking was too much - I can't walk a step anymore tonight 😂

sorry for another long delay, but I haven't been in the mood to turn the computer on in the past 2 days ... on my way home from Italy my van suddenly stopped and I was lucky that I already have been in Austria because if it had happened in Italy, my car wouldn't be at home already. But so it stands down at the street in the parking lot. But I cannot drive it because one or more injectors are dead and I have to wait for my friend to return from Tyrol. Hopefully he'll be able to repair it on Friday or Saturday. Although I don't have to pay him for his work, the material will be quite expensive.

Now to the reply...

I have no reply to the spoon thing 😂 !LOLZ

This waterfall is easily accessible and can even be seen from the road, so you have to be there very early because later it usually is crowded 😮

Oh yes, I know we have been talking about it, and travelling Europe with a mobile home sounds great - you would certainly love it. There are so many places to see.

... and today started with rain - the good weather seem sto be over. It still isn't cold though.

Such trips wouldn't be possible with the motorbike - after a long hike you need a place to rest. This was also a reason for me to switch to the van.

You're always so lucky with your shots, my friend, and I still haven't photographed a dragonfly yet - maybe next year.

Until my car is repaired, my hiking season is over anyway, but I have got some shots from my last hike:

Good to see that you are safe and well and I am sad to hear about the van.
They sell injector cleaners aerosol cans that one can pour in the tank, but the motor has to start in order for it to work. If the motor does not start, then the injectors will have to be stripped. Maybe they just need a clean.

Yeah, I know your reasons for getting the van, but your friend will have to find the reason for the injectors clogging up, as it might be dirt in the gas tank. We cannot have you without a van my friend.

Who knows, maybe my dream will come true and Austria will be on my travel antennary 🤣 !LOLZ

Not to worry about getting a dragonfly as all of the photos that you are showing me are masterful showpieces. I like the one with the van as a white spot, but each of the photos have a fantastic character.
Really some lovely photos methinks.

Nope, not yet as I am still full of little niggles in the legs and they reckon that it will take time for it to heal. We are also waiting to see what the camera job will reveal.

Good morning Zac,

it's heavily raining here and in a couple of minutes I will drive my son to his boss. They are going to Mailand / Milano in Italy to a motorcycle fair for the weekend and so I am happy to have the Golf for myself 😀 although I can only drive around in the rain

I don't think cleaning will be enough, but maybe ... who knows 😉

I have been very lucky with the weather in the Dolomites, although I wished there were more dramatic clouds, but you can't have everything 👉 thanks so much for your kind compliment on the images 😊

the rain didn't stop till this morning (your words might have taken a longer path to here 😁 !LOLZ ) and today I have had somethings to do in the van as well as a little bit of cleaning work in the cellar - so, no photo trip today but maybe tomorrow morning, although the cellar is waiting for me again.

Oh, you're so right, my friend, and I am often laying in the van, thinking of how much I like to have it ... I have never spoken loud though and maybe I should start doing so, but not loud and only inside the car ... although my neighbors know anyway that I am bonkers 😉

So I will keep the 15th / 16th in my mind to think of you by then and hope everything will be fine.

The Friday here stayed wet and Saturday was dry but it has become much colder - Winter is near 😀

That cellar will be an eternal problem, unless you empty it and sell or give everything in it away 😉

Well if the neighbors know that you are bonkers then you can certainly serenade the van out loud, as you might just get lucky and when you turn the key the van will start as if nothing was wrong 🤣🤣🤣

The 15th and the 16th will look after themselves Hannes and things with my stomach seems to have deteriorated again. So I am sure that they will find the problem and I hope that it will be an easy fix.

Good day Zac,

I'm back at work, it's lunchtime and I want to go home 😭

You might not believe it, but yesterday I got up at 3am, looked after the van and took some things from it to the apartment and then I went down to the cellar and started to clean up which lasted till about noon. This afternoon, my wife and I will transport all rubbish to the disposal station and then the cellar should be clean again ... at least for a while 🤣 !LOLZ

I am also sure that on the 16th you will smile 😊

Wow, what an awesome golden sunset, Zac, I would have loved to be there to enjoy this scene. Such beautiful views are my reason that when I have some days off next time, I'll drive to the sea ... south would be much closer but I'll see.

it's still dark, I'm in the office and in a couple of minutes I'll go to the other office for a 24-hour-shift 😅 ... "I wanna go home, I wanna go home, oh how I wanna go home!" oh, these words are so very right 🤣 !LOLZ

Nope, I was also hoping the same, but the injector didn't heal from my love 😭 The new one should arrive today or tomorrow and by the weekend my van and I will make a little trip, I believe 😁

Yep, the cellar is almost cleaned out. There are just some things from the kids left, but it looks great there and now I have enough space to build a new bed for the van within the next weeks ... or months. The old one works fine, but some things are just not very practicable, so I have to open the tailgate to get to the kitchen stuff and if it's raining I have to get out ... after using the van for quite a while now, I have some better ideas, I believe 😉

It will all be fine, my friend, no doubts 🤞🙏

It's a long time since I was at the sea last, and I'm looking forward to it. Beautiful images like yours make me longing for it even more 😊

Okay, so your mechanic friend ordered a new injector. From China? The German ones are very expensive and the Chinese ones are a tenth of the German price. You will have to ask your friend to get 6 though 😵

Yay, maybe you can make a bit of a workshop in the cellar Hannes. I have a friend that has a tiny workshop here and he makes the most fancy metal post boxes that he sells on the side. So maybe when you redesign and make the perfect van bed, then it will be easy to simply replicate it and sell van beds as a sideline 😉

If you take the passenger out and get a swivel drivers seat, you can simply stop, swing the seat around and go inside the van to the back 😉

I so pray that you are right 🙏

You will certainly get to the sea sooner or later and it's only a matter of what I call patience 🤣

Good morning Zac,

now, after 24 hours at the office ... I wanna go home 😂 !LOLZ
But I can't, because right after my shift ends, I have got some work to do at our headquarters, and it will be another long day, I am afraid.

Haha, nope, if we had used my friends injector, I would already be driving again, but I told the company, where I have bought the car, what has happened and they offered me to repair it for free (warranty) or to send me the injector. Towing the van for about 200 kilometres isn't possible, so I have to wait for the parcel to arrive, hopefully today 🤞
And because my friend has an ordinary job too, we will repair it on the weekend, and change the summer tires for the winter tires at the same time 😀

Great idea, my friend, I also have thought of such a possibility, but I am too bad as a carpenter, so I don't think that I even will get my own stuff right as I want ... we'll see though 😉

I have thought of such a swivel seat, but they are expensive and, believe me or not, I am still flexible enough to quite easily get to the back between the two seats ... such a seat would be much more comfortable though, especially in the years to come 😂

Oh my, it seems that they want to keep you away from home, and in the day shift there is no chance for your favorite hobby. Of course I know that the favorite hobby of a mountain goat is sleep 🤣 !LOLZ

Ah! We both now seem to have car troubles. We sold our little Polo, as with my bad knee I couldn't tramp the clutch pedal anymore. The doctor suggested that I should buy an automatic car and we bought a used 1018, Ford ecosport automatic that has 45,000 km on the clock.
After we paid and took delivery of the car, Marian discovered that the engine numbers were different than the original numbers and then the dealer informed us that the motor was replaced with a new one.
So now something doesn't seem right and I will investigate what happened with the original motor.

So great that you have a warranty on the van as it is always a money saver and I hope that the injector replacement will be a success 🤞

Carpentry means wood and maybe you must have a look at an aluminum frame that you can bolt together??? 😉

Maybe you can get a used swivel seat, as you are going to have the van for a long time and when you reach my age you will really need a swivel seat. Just imagine, as it turns right around and it will make things so easy to get into the back. Especially at night when it rains 👍

The injector arrived yesterday and on Friday or Saturday my car will run again 😁

Always when I needed a car at work I asked for a non automatic car, but yesterday they gave me an automatic and I thought "why not try it?" and now I wonder why I have been so scared about driving an automatic - I somehow like it, although I prefer to shift the gears myself - good luck with your new car, my friend, I am sure that not having a clutch pedal anymore will be a big help for you 👍

I have also thought of aluminum, but I prefer wood because it's more flexible, I believe ... and cheaer 😉

If I build the bed and other furniture as I have planned it in my head, a swivel seat will not work, because the bed goes right up to the drivers seat and there will be a small cupboard behind the passenger seat ... I'll see ... there's not much space in this van.

Oh yes, my evening was filled with a lot of sleep and today is a rainy day - perfect for sitting in the office 😀

a wise move I think, but I hope the sun wouldn't mind, as then when the sun gets a chance, it is going to fry a certain mountain goat that I know !LOLZ

They reckon that the pistons was loose in the old motor and so it pushed the oil out of the motor's head.
Whatever, as I didn't argue and the new motor runs like a dream. Funny how one has to get used to a bigger car and a change from manual to automatic. Especially after driving manual cars since the 80s when my left leg was in plaster. But I am coping 😜

The problem is that wood doesn't like movement, unless it's a solid slab like a thick table top?

I am looking forward to the van running again, as I am sure that you are also looking forward to it 👌

Just don't do what I have done a few times now! At times I want to change gears and then I put my left foot on brake, thinking that it's the clutch. The car jerks to a stop, as there is no clutch and I feel like a fool. The bonus is now I can eat a pie in the car without having to change gears with my one hand and my one leg is also at rest. Or I can take photos with my one hand! 🤣

Only you can figure the layout and I am sure that you will be successful my friend. Just don't build a bed with four posts and a rooftop, as when you have to stop in an emergency, something might strike you behind the head 🤣🤣🤣

Hahaha, I doubt that you will just sit in the office my friend. Sleep is too important to you 😉

I'll hide under a huge boulder so no sun nor a rain cloud will be able to disturb my sleep 🤣 !LOLZ

If the engine runs fine and the paperwork is fine too, it should be alright I believe.

Metal is cold and wood is warm and if I want to change or repair something it is easier when it's woodwork, I believe. But I am still planning what to do because there are several plans in my head ... first I have to get the van back and then I will decide ... I have time and don't need to rush because at the moment it's working fine anyway 🙂

But the bed will be simple and fixed on the floor, that's for sure 😃

It's almost weekend and I hope to get my car repaired tonight... hopefully my friend has enough time because we have to tow the van to his workshop which is about 15 kilometers away.

Yep, I have put my left foot as far away from the pedals as I could, because when I drove from the parking lot I have used it to push the "clutch" pedal a few times 🤣🤣🤣

In two minutes we will leave to work and later I have to go to our headquarters - a colleague has called for help, but I don't know yet what it is that I should do ... will become an interesting Friday I think.

Yep! All okay and running very well thus far. Took the car for a test yesterday over a mountain pass and no problems with the power 👍

Hope that your friend has a good towing car and that the road is good, but 15km is luckily not too far.

An umbrella sounds much better and octopuses live in the ocean, so you will be safe. Unless a hungry bear gets attracted and decides to investigate what delicacy is sleeping under the umbrella 🤣 !LOLZ

Not so fine as now a warning pops up on the screen to tell me that there are deflated tires. So I went o have all of wheels inflated to the correct specifications and I cancelled the warning. Now the warning refuses to go away and I will have to take the car in for an inspection tomorrow. Seems like both of us have headaches with our new cars.

One of those unpleasant discussions, but always best to get problems out in the open, as it makes things better afterwards. At one of my jobs I had the same thing between two of my workers. So I summoned them to my office, closed and locked the door and gave both of them baseball bats. Then I told them to fight it out. Of course it worked as they were more scared about what the bats could do to them than what they were of each other. So they refused to fight. Then I sat them down, each to tell me their gripes, we discussed it and afterwards I had them shaking hands and making friends. Problem solved.
Maybe you can give each of the ladies a scary weapon, such as an axe, but note that this is not financial advice, as they might both sue you 🤣

Saturday was good, as I was on the roof and glad that the van is going again.

Maybe your tires / wheels don't have sonsors to control the air pressure in the tires - the winter tires of my Golf don't have such sensors and so I get this message too during the winter.

The problem is even more serious, as they don't have an argument, but the other one has huge private problems which influence her life and work badly. It will not be easy.

Nowadays you can buy such a small computer thing, plug it into the car and connect it to your phone to do such things what he did yourself.

No, no, not at the same time. The GP is our house doctor. Hec refers me to the arterial specialist that put the 3 stents into my lower abdomen. Then the arterial specialist referred me to the stomach specialist who did the camera job. So different days my friend 😜

I thought I would have problems to switch from a normal to an automatic car and back, but there was no problem and my left foot is doing nothing as soon as I notice that there's no gear shifter and only two pedals 🤣 !LOLZ

Good and reliable workers are seldom and you have to take care that they feel well. I have known her for many years and she belongs to the few people I would really miss if they or I leave the company.

Now you see? I am not that clever, as my left foot is just as automatic as the car! When I go into a corner my left foot wants to tramp the clutch for me to gear down and then it tramps the brake, causing the back of the car to swing out 🤣 !LOLZ

She sounds like a good person and she can be glad to have you guys, not only as colleagues, but also as friends 👍

Good evening Zac,

yesterday, I got up at 3, drove 4 hours to a lake which I have had for me alone because the weather forecast predicted rain and snow. It rained but the weather wasn't too bad and the best thing was that I have had the whole lake for me alone - thanks to the weatherman 🤣 !LOLZ

After I walked around the lake and climbed on a little mountain (it was more a hill than a mountain 😉) I drove another two hours to a gorge. It has been snowing there and also the gorge was completely empty 😁

While I was hiking through the gorge it got dark and when I came home it was way after my bedtime, so my reply is one day later once again.

The first times I have had the same problem with my left foot, but I have put it away from the pedals and after a while the foot stayed and didn't want to press the clutch pedal anymore. I often reach into the void because my right hand wants to shift gears though 😂

She's one of the best 😊

This saying is very true - in German it's "viele Köche verderben den Brei".

Good afternoon Hannes,

I have to do things earlier today as we will have a power cut at 6pm.

That 4 hour drive certainly had great rewards as nature played the game by giving you the lake all for yourself. And that is another lovely photo.
The waterfall at the gorge is also fabulous and you have very nice nature scenes over there.
Not to worry about replying a day later, as I know you by now my friend. Maybe time for you to do a post to show others that you are still around 😉 !LOLZ

Oh, I forget that you drive on the wrong side of the road over there, as we have right hand drive cars and your cars are left hand drive. But I also still search for the gear lever with my left hand 😜🤣😉

Great that I now know the German version of that saying and I like it 👌
