Distant flight of the Great-white Pelicans.

Days are very hot here now, but the sea mist and strong winds block the sun.

I saw the pelicans flying high above the mountains and decided to try my luck with my camera. Although the weather temperature was 28C, the temperature in our car read 35C, and a dense humidity hung in the air. We were busy at one of the places in town, and a pity that I was not closer to the mountains, but such is life. In all of the time that we now live here, I think it is only the third time that I got the pelicans on camera as they are not often seen. I know that there is a lake over the mountains that they frequent, and a time will come for us to visit that lake.

They are Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus), and they are the only pelican specie in our area. There are also Pink-backed Pelicans, but they are higher up north in the country.

Circling around, far away.

Oops, that is a manmade pelican, flying over the mountain below.

Finally, the pelicans decided to depart and they flew in a lighter area.

After this photo below, they disappeared.

We might not have a lake this side for the pelicans, but fortunately we have hundreds of flamingoes that breed at a local lake not too far away in our area. I often find it amazing when the bird species migrate here from up north in Africa, and the amazing part is they have selected areas where they land to breed every year. Thankfully, we have many entities that take care of nature and the lakes, and as long as they stay in a pristine condition, the birds will continue to arrive. We also have some European bird species that arrive here now in summer, and I have posted a few of them in the past. In another three weeks or so, they should all have arrived and then my camera will go to have a feast.
At least I hope so, as in all honesty I don't feel too well lately, and I can only hope that my health will improve.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
