A severe storm advance.

This was the night before the storm landed in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
026.jpg

We are booked on some Orange Level 6 weather warnings (floods, waves) and Orange Level 8 (interior winds) for the new week, which started yesterday, until Friday.

The previous lighter storm this past week, on Wednesday, has already removed some house roofs, and then we received the warnings that a series of severe cold fronts was going to land on Sunday (yesterday). The bad news is that the first one started with wind speeds of 80-90Kph. The weather forecast showed a temperature drop to 12C here and some subzero temperatures further inland. All of the emergency rescue squads are on high alert, and yes, it's going to be a tough weak.
I took some random photos, to show you what things looked like the night prior to storms arrival.

Some unnatural sights, as the sun was up in the late afternoon, but the land was tinged with dark colors.

This photo below was a message to me that a sun halo would appear.

And ever so slowly the halo started to appear, up in the cold sky, bringing the message of impending rain.

And here at sunset, the cloud colors started to come in.

The photos below had streams of clouds appearing ahead of the dark clouds that were to follow.
We were watching a rugby test match between the South African, Springbok World Champion team, and the number 2 team in the rankings, which was Ireland. They are here for two test matches, and the Springboks won the first match that we watched. We don't have a TV and visited a Bossa restaurant, as they have many TV screens. I parked the car outside and a few times I popped out to check on the car. That's when I saw the colored sunset clouds streaming in.

Brace yourself Cape Town! Winds of 70 - 90 km/h expected.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has adjusted the Level 6 weather warning for damaging winds in Cape Town on Sunday to Level 8.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell.
The forecast is for gale to strong gale force westerly and north-westerly winds, reaching speeds of between 70 and 90 km/h, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h at times. This could result in widespread structural damage like roofs being blown off, uprooted trees and downed power lines.

I will continue to give you news on the storms and what we are all experiencing here, but I first wanted to show you the calm and quiet before the storms. The mountains were clear, so we knew we had a couple days grace. We enjoyed sunshine and some warmth on Friday and Saturday, but the Saturday sun halo was a harbinger, warning us to brace for the very strong winds and flooding on its way. We pray for others who have lost lives and possessions during these times - here - and throughout the world with all the tragedies that humans must face. May we remember what and Who is most important in this life, otherwise one day it will be too late, and we will have no more time to change.

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

My husband also told me if the sun is like that and the color of the sun is dark orange, it means there is an incoming natural calamity.

Your husband was correct, as we have had many damages here, and in other parts of the country. So, now everyone is holding thumbs that the next one will not be as bad.

Thank you, and sadly, I have some bad news my friend. 1000 homes in our township were destroyed and now 4000 people have no home. Much more damages have occurred in other parts of the country, and black frost have destroyed thousands of acres of potato and tomato lands. So, the farmers have lost it all.
Now we are waiting for the second cold front that will arrive tomorrow.

Halo followed by red skies both amazing sightings, we have had great sunsets of late. Today your Cape Doctor arrived, yes solar panels blown off some roofs, roofing gone astray with trees toppling over everywhere, yup the coastal winds blowing through as I look at your incoming storms.

Stay well and !LUV to the Capetonians.

Did you see in the news that 1000 shacks were destroyed in one of our townships? They reckon that 4000 people now have no home. Black frost inland also ruined thousands of acres on potato and tomato farms. Now we wait with baited breaths for the second cold front that lands tomorrow.
It is worse than last season, as we have not heard the intense sounds of the rain on our roof before.

!LUV also to you guys.

Housing is in such demand to protect the people from these ongoing problems, watched last night as Gogo's battle to have a roof over their head, no food looking after families.

Black frost warning went out a week ago for people to try prepare, doubt they have sufficient on farms to cover with natural material like they did previously.

Driving wind that went through here was hectic, hang on it's only the start of real winter.

Very bad here and to worsen things, the second cold front landed today, with massive clouds loaded with water, and a 70Kph wind driving the lot. Trees are crying in the wind.

Yep, I think that you have a good idea about what the wind is up to.

Watched some footage of the floods through the shacks, people in dire need of blankets and warm food. Weather has turned wicked with run away fires, black frost, snow, driving wind and rain.

Take care !LUV

Thousands now without homes, and even floods in the inner suburbs. A lever 8 warning for tomorrow (Thursday), as yet another cold front will land. The wind went crazy for the whole day here, and the story is that we will see more severe rain and windspeeds soon.
Definitely much worse than last tear.

Thank you, and !LUV also to you guys.

Humidity is sky high down there! Saturated in the air, on ground simply wet. I see the wind is wrecking havoc again with gusting winds again, stay off the roads, keep safe!

A real struggle here, and the river rehab process has not reached the higher parts of the river. So, this morning I took photos of another flood closing off streets in the suburbs. And still, the river is ranging, but thankfully they have closed the schools for today. The winds are crazy, snapping mature trees like twigs.

Still a couple more cold fronts coming in, really hope they not as powerful as the first two. Thoughts are with you and the people of the Cape, take care!

Tough going here and icy cold, but we will survive. Just worried about all of the people that have lost their homes. The word is that now all illegal squatters on government land will be moved, and the reason is that they block the storm water gutters that causes the floods. I so wish that they will also relocate those that live on river banks.
Thank you and care is high on our list !LOLZ
