A narrow escape.

Missed a bad accident by the skin of my teeth. Thankfully the driver of an oncoming car saw what I was going to do, and he slowed down.
It all happened in seconds.
001.jpg

If I braked, the tree would have fallen on the top of our car, but I swerved to the right into the opposite lane trying to avoid the tree. We heard the screaming scratches of the tree on our car as we passed the tree.
I parked our car immediately behind the fallen tree and I tried to call the owner of the property as there was no bell on the gate.

The tree bust the cement paneled fence wall on its way down.
041.JPG

044.JPG

Yep! That fence now had a big gap in it.
048.JPG

Shame, our car had some bad scratches on it, but rather scratches than a caved in roof or either of us hurt.
017.JPG

Scratches right back to the rear light.
022.JPG

A neighbor heard what was going on and in typical South African fashion, fetched a long-handled saw and started cutting the branches off that protruded into the road.
006.JPG

After a while, the owner of the property's daughter arrived and she swopped some details with my wife for insurance purposes.
058.JPG

Just look at the size of that baby. One cannot say that it is an old tree, because it looks healthy, but it must have been in sandy soil that can never stand up against our strong winds.
027.JPG

Finally, the road was cleared and the dual way was open again for traffic.
007.JPG

Now here is another sad thing. We had to go to the police station to do a damage report, with the idea that we will submit the report to our insurance for the repairs. I say again, sad news as we were informed at the police station that the insurance will not cover accidents by the forces of nature. So now I will have to fix the car myself, and it comes at a time when we are not very well off in the wallet. Reason being, we have just had to spend a big amount on the medical equipment for my iron infusion series that starts again soon.
But be it as it may, we shall overcome as usual.

I am not going to say here that I hope you have enjoyed the photos, as it was certainly not an enjoyable experience, but we are grateful that nobody was hurt.

I am glad to know you are safe and unhurt. Accident really happens within a snap of a finger. No-one knows when it will occur and I am pretty sure your focus saved the day.

Thank you for the kind message. It is said that an accident happens in the blink of an eye.
Fortunately whenever I drive, I am always on the alert.

Ohhh dear @papilloncharity I am so so sorry but I am glad that no one was hurt as this would have been a different story.

Sorry about the scratches on your car dear friend.

If it's just the car that's damaged then that's not too terrible. They can be fixed. You got lucky, but will still be out of pocket. Stay well.

I agree with you Steve and it is just one of those things.

All well here, and thank you again.

Thank goodness we were not a few seconds earlier on that road, else we would have collected the whole tree on top of our car but destiny did not determine it like that, and we were happy to escape serious injury.
You also stay well my friend.

That's like blessing in disguise, my friend. You have been very lucky and these scratches are only on metal, but luckily not on you 🙏

Have you had a look at the insurance policy if such damages are really not covered? Or maybe the tree or it's roots or so were somehow damaged or broken, so the owner would have had to cut it. So it might have been his fault that it fell ...
But I have no idea about your laws, of course.

We see it as a warning from nature to be on our best when we drive around.

I don't want to battle with the insurance, as previously we did put in a claim for another case, and they demanded a huge excess payment before deciding on the claim.
So this time I am fixing the car by myself.

Cheers and thanks.

Yep, and Mother Nature loves you 😊

Sadly the insurance companies are stronger than you and me, at least most times. I hope the repairing doesn't cost too much and you'll still get a good price for the car.

Hahaha, and mother nature also loves you my friend 🙂

When we still had the VW Polo, some red road paint slashed from the wheels onto the car. A guy was promoting spray cans of Premier Max at the service station, and he said that he can take the paint of by using this stuff. I told him that if it takes the paint off then I will buy a can. Guess what? He took the paint off.

I am using that same can now to take the scratches off and it works like a bomb. I still have a few scratches to do, and then the car will be as new. It only takes a lot of arm PT and the stuff works like a burnishing compound 😳

Cheers and thanks.

I'll see if Mother Nature still loves me when she has painted all trees in Autumn colours till next weekend 😀 !LOLZ

Wow, that sounds like a miracle fluid. I hope you don't rub all the paint off 😉 !LOLZ
Seriously, I'm glad that it works and you don't have to pay someone to polish the scratches out, or even to paint the car. The work is good for your muscles, I believe, and the pain in your arms will be gone soon, at least when you see an almost new car when you're finished 😉

Mother nature's love endures forever my friend, and I am sure that she will show her love to you, unless you start to chop down her trees, which I know you won't do 🤣 !LOLZ

Never, the great thing is that the fluid waxes and polishes the paint right back to its original shiny color. Almost like it has never been scratched. You said in a previous reply that you are now getting old. One feels the age when your arms are lame from all of the rubbing to get the scratches off. In the past I could rub all day long, but now I have to take little breaks all along. I fool myself to think that I am taking the little breaks to inspect my work 😜🤣😉 !LOLZ
Thankfully the car is like new again Hannes. (Without costing me a cent)!

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yeah, in that way I know you very well, as you love nature the same way that I do 😊 !LOLZ

I don't think so, as you used both of your arms to do the fittings in the van 😜

Nope, don't cut yourself short, as I bet that the things that you did in the van looks great 😉

Hahaha, no, it unfortunately doesn't have even a sunroof. The problem is to get into it, as I have to fold myself double and we are worried about my back. Soon I will be walking around on my hands and knees as a result 🤣 !LOLZ

Here they do it and in other countries too - so stupid and it doesn't help, but only annoys everybody.

Yep, it looks quite nice ... at first glance only 😆

Maybe you should take the driver's seat out and sit on the back seat 😉 !LOLZ

I will simply ignore them and make a detour road for the cars. Then I will leave them stuck to road for a week. End of the protests methinks. 😉

First glance is all that is needed and after that, simply keep all doors closed 🥴

Somebody else suggested that and maybe I should remove the driver's seat. Don't know what a traffic officer will think when the car passes him with no driver at the front 🙄 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

They glue themselves to the road and block all traffic - no car can pass. They are just stupid kids who don't know better, but it's really annoying and wrong.

Hihi, it will certainly look funny and I would love to see the officer's face 🤣 !LOLZ 😂 but if you can drive better that way, why not remove that seat.

Another easy solution. As they are laying glued to the road, then simply get a truckload of goats and let the goats wee on them. They will stink for a month afterwards methinks 😜 !LOLZ

Not a chance, as they have increased the traffic fine amounts over here and I will be bankrupt in a week 😉

Cheers and thanks.

Yep, and I am sure that many farmers would happily bring their worst stinking goats 😂 !LOLZ

Okay, then you'll have to drive squeezed into the seat - maybe an officer sees your suffering face and suggests to remove the front seat, and maybe he'll give you a kind of certificate that it's fine 😉

I think that I told you about the time that my BMW was stolen ? The thief had 2 goats in the car and he stopped at a scrap yard trying to sell the car. The goats peed all over the back seat of the car and try as I might, I could never remove the stench from the car.
So, I can tell you that the people that glue themselves will stink for a year 😜 !LOLZ

Hahaha, in your and my dreams, but as a senior police officer, you can organize me an international certificate, as that might work 😇

Cheers and thanks.

Hihi, sorry, but I can't remember that story - it's great though. I can exactly smell how this car must have smelled, believe me. Although I haven't smelled a goat in ages, I still can remember their odor from the days in my youth when I've spent the summer with them in the mountains 🐐 !LOLZ

Of course, the certificate is on it's way to South Africa. I only hope that it doesn't get lost during it's long journey to the south 😆

Hi Hannes,

that smell stayed in the car until the day that it was sold. A clingy rotten smell that would close one's ears inside the car. Good that you have also encountered the smell in your ruth, as you know exactly what I am talking about 😜 !LOLZ

Thank you so much and the certificate might arrive in 1027, so let's hold thumbs and cross our fingers 🤞

Hi Zac,

oh yes, believe be that I do know this smell, but my family knows it even better than me, because sometimes I even wasn't allowed to enter the house 😂 !LOLZ

It was snowing in some regions here last night, so I had to change plans. The road, where I wanted to drive over a pass to get to this gorge in Slovenia, wasn't cleared from snow, so I turned around and drove to a gorge in Austria, which I've had completely for myself, because it was still rainy and very foggy. I have made some close-up waterfall shots and also some photos of the trees in the fog...

Hope you have had a nice Sunday, my friend, and I wish you a great start into the new week 🌞

Hi Hannes,

I bet that you stank to the rafters and that smell is even worse than any other smell that I can think of. No wonder that you were not allowed into the house 😳 !LOLZ

So, you have snow there now and a great idea that had to access a gorge in another area. Otherwise, you would never have had a chance to get a fabulous photo like this one. That tree and its colors look beautiful and backed by the fog and a waterfall in the back, gives the photo a wistful look. Really beautiful my friend.

All that I could come up today, with regards to beauty was the one-day flowers of the Echinopsis catii plant.

I hope that you will also have a great new week.

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

I'm at the end of another nightshift and after it my desk is waiting for me 😅

Yep, when the wind was right, they knew that I was coming home way before they saw me 😂 !LOLZ

I'm not so good in photographing trees, and so I have to thank you so much for this kind compliment 😊 My next nightshift is on Sunday, but I hope that on Saturday I'll be able to make a little trip somewhere again.

Wow, that's a little beauty 😀 I think my mother has had such one when I was a kid, because the blossoms look quite familiar to me, and I think she also called it something like "one-day" or so.

Wishing you a wonderful day, my friend 🌞

Well, according to me that is an excellent tree shot, so don't cut yourself short. Now there you go, as I have just said that fortunately your trips keep you calm 😉

Yeah, I think that you told me that before, maybe last year, and we also call them one day flowers over here, so your mother was right, as they only last for 24 hours 👍

And I hope that your day was also good my friend 🙂

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

it has been bad before the Pandemic, but I think since 2020 everything and everybody has changed - simple things have become complicated ... and it continues like this and gets worse.

Good evening Hannes,

now that you say this, we were discussing the regression and the new anxieties just the other day. It seems like so many including us have become hesitant and unsure in our decisions. We can act irrationally in an instant and late on we regret it.

Hahaha, glad that you learned very early in your young days, that the wind can be both your enemy and your friend 😜 !LOLZ

My day was good and I hope the same for you 🙂

Good evening Zac,

oh yes, there's so much going on at the moment and I don't know what or whom to believe, but I think it will not take very long until at least some things will get clearer ... I don't fear for my future, but I'm not so sure about my kids future.

Today I've been to a short hike with a nice waterfall at the end: Slap Kozjak in Slovenia.

If I wouldn't have to work tomorrow I would have stayed longer and visited another waterfall. But if everything goes as planned, I will take the week after next week off ... we'll see.

Hope your weekend is good, my friend 🌞

Good evening Hannes,

Really confusion that reigns these days my friend. Instead of things becoming clearer, I think that it will become way more confusing in the future, as we haven't bottomed yet. New wars are waiting just around the corner and we can only pray 🙏

But we hope that our kids will clear up the mess in their time at the helm, unless they turn out like us 😜 !LOLZ

I am drooling about the picture and if you can get fantastic shot on a short hike, I can only imagine what you will get soon on a longer hike. You guys are certainly blessed with the beauty over there and I hope that your planned week off will happen.

Raining now over here, but I am sure that it will clear up in the morrow 😉

Cheers and thanks.

Good evening Zac,

yep, you're right, and I have no idea where this all will end ... and when and how this will end.

Allour hope is with our kids - they will hopefully make it all better than we did.

Thank you so much, it's a nice hike, although the autumnal colours are almost gone.

Yesterday morning was the first frosty morning and I had to scrape ice off the windshield for the first time this year. Today was cold, but quite nice.

Hope the rain has stopped and your week started nice, my friend 🌞

Good evening Hannes,

so strange as my youngest daughter (46) is having some issues and she may lose her business. The economy is very bad these days and the good times has long since left. It seems like the whole world is on a downward spiral and the wars are really not good medicine.

All that we have is hope and prayer that they don't make the same mistakes.

Yep and soon, it will be all the white colors again 😉

Ah, scarping ice off the windshield reminds me about up north where we used to live. I used to cover the windshield with an old blanket. Your cold and our cold are miles apart, but I also like the cool days. It was just terrible on the bike to work, as we didn't wear helmets those days. My ears burned so red from the cold that I looked like Father Christmas 😳 !LOLZ

Next 3 days no going out my friend. Way too hot and dangerous UV rays. Today was 26C and it will rapidly go into the high 30s over the 3 days.
Hope that your week will be great 🙂

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

and that's one thing I really don't understand: before the Pandemic we've had the so called climate change and so on, but the virus has made everything worse, even more than worse. Companies don't find employees ... people don't want to work anymore ... especially small businesses go bankrupt... 🤔😒

In our winter your blanket would be frozen to the windshield in the morning ... and maybe also covered by half a meter of snow 😂 !LOLZ
From November on you rarely see motorbikes here - maybe on very warm and sunny days. Usually they deposit the number plate at an office of their insurance company until March or April, so they don't have to pay the full insurance during these cold months.

Today is going to be fairly warm, says the weather woman, we might get up to 6C 😅

Have a great day and week too, my friend 🌞

Good evening Hannes,

yes, things are very bad also here. People have become more suspicious and lackluster after the enforced Covid lockdowns. You can imagine how a person suffered that built a small business up, and poring all of his money into the business. Then suddenly he is forced to close the business for a year with no income. No one to buy the business and he has to pay bills every month. So, he goes bankrupt and loses everything 😞

Ach no, luckily we never had a mountain of snow on the car to clear and I think that you are an expert on that job 😉 !LOLZ

Yes, I remember you saying this to me when you still had the Harley and if one is to hand number plates in over here, they will simply disappear. But I think that it is a good system, especially the savings on the insurance 🙂
When we moved down here, we had to change our number plates to reflect the new province numbers. Then we got a fine, as somebody took our old number plates and put it on their car.
Thankfully we had evidence that it was no longer our number plates and they were supposed to destroy the old number pates. Some officer must have sold the old plates to a crook 😳

Wow! 6C is very hot and please stay out of the sun my friend 😜
We only had 37C today and it will be 39C tomorrow. Still a bit cold 🤣😂

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

I'm quickly replying before I have to go to the other office for my last nightshift this month...

Times have become really bad and they will get even worse 😒

Hihi, sometimes, when we forgot where we have parked our car, there was so much snow that we didn't even recognize our car and started cleaning the wrong one 😂 !LOLZ

I remember that thing when your old plates were used by someone - bad story and I don't think it could happen here.

I hope you put your thick coat on when you leave the house, my friend 😉 At the moment we have 0C here 😅

Good afternoon Hannes,

I am glad that it's your last nightshift, as now you can go hiking on the weekends 🙂

Yes, I agree and we will just have to soldier on 🙏

Hahaha, I will wait at that clean wrong car with a bucket and cloth, for the owner. When he arrives, I will get him to clean my car 😜 !LOLZ
But with my luck, as I have a soft heart, the owner will be an old lady and she will get me to clean her car every day 😳

People use false number plates all over the world my friend.

No coat needed here, as it is only 0C in the mountain goat's country, and over here it's in the late 30Cs 😉

Cheers and thanks.

Luckily we don't have that much snow anymore, but I can tell you that a meter of snow is able to transform an ugly city to a beautiful Winter Wonderland 😀
... and I know some old ladies who are so small that you wouldn't have seen them under such an amount of snow 😆

Hi Zac,

my apprentice is at school till February 2024. That means that now I have some time for myself and I have taken the rest of the week off. So I might be even less online in the next couple of days, because I want to make a short trip towards the south, maybe Italy or Croatia or somewhere else - I haven't decided yet 😉

Yep, you're completely right - who would have thought he would say "no"? 😂 !LOLZ

That's one reason why we have to have Winter tires on the car when the weather conditions are frosty or snowy 😉 If you have an accident on ice or snow and your tires are for Summer only, the insurance will not pay.

I'll tell my mom that she will be the star in such a museum ... she's shrinking and below 1.50 meters already 😆

As said in the beginning - I have had a very busy, but short week, because it's already over 😁 and I'm scared that on Monday my desk will be covered by work 😅

Wow! You certainly deserve this break, ten times over my friend. And if your boss asks why you want to take leave, just tell him that I gave you permission. I hope that you will find a wonderful new spot in the country that you will end up in.

Well, one thing I know, bosses are like that. They usually say no before they say yes. 😊 !LOLZ

We don't have winter and summer tires here, because we have no snow here. But, when an oil tanker tips on the road, or in heavy rains, the roads can get very slippery. Especially, during hail storms or on dirt roads. One always struggles to get insurance payments here. 😉

My goodness. We went to a shop today, and there were five little Dachshunds that came to the table where we were sitting. The owner came over to take the smallest one away, and he told us that she is under quarantine, as she is on heat and the other bigger ones were her pups that are now adults. I will show you the dogs in one of my posts.

Haha. I don't think your mom will be very impressed if you tell her that she will be featured in a dwarf museum. 🙄

Yeah, you will indeed have a mountain of work when you return, and your apprentice will still be gone. We will have to pray for you. 🙏🏾

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

I ended up in the Italian Dolomites and I have found a little gem that I will certainly visit again: there were signs that you shouldn't carry on hiking because it's too dangerous, and that was an invitation to me, of course 😂 !LOLZ And it was a bit dangerous at places, but after about 1.5 hours I reached the end of a gorge where I found a lovely waterfall which I liked more than the waterfalls I have come for.

My boss knows that I need some days off and that I need to consume the rest of my vacation days from 2021. And after this week I'll still have 6 weeks left from 2022 which I'll consume in 2024...

The Dachshund is called "Dackel" here and they are lovely little guys 😀

Haha, my mom will definitely get locked up in that museum, because she has again crashed their car while she was parking it at home, and she doesn't know how it happened 🫣

You don't need to pray for me, because nothing anyone could do would make the mountain of work smaller 😅

you see, a sign says that it is dangerous, and you think that it's dangerous to stop the hike. That's why we call you a mountain goat 😜 !LOLZ
That was certainly a great and beautiful reward that you found at the end of the hike my friend.

Wow! That's a month and a half of holidays and I presume that you have to take it all, before the holidays of the new year gets added? So, if not, then you can continue to stash the holidays and take a 2 year holiday leading up to your retirement 😉

Dackel sounds good and yes, they are great little dogs 😊

That's easy to fix Hannes, simply put 2 more pillows on the driver's seat so your mom can sit higher in the car to see the road 🤣🤣🤣

Again easy to fix my friend. Take your 6 weeks leave before your apprentice comes back, as then she can help with the mountain of work 😂

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

there was a path, at least kind of a path, and sometimes I even go where there's no path ... and get lost 😂 !LOLZ

That's my plan: to keep 2 years of vacation days and take these 3 months right before I retire, so I can leave by May 2027 ... or earlier if I win in the Lottery 😜
Unfortunately, until then I can't take more than 2 weeks at once, unless the 2 new co-workers we will get in January or February 2024 will learn fast and thus will be able to work alone sooner than I think.

Yesterday I have been driving around all day long and because it was heavily raining everywhere I took only two photos right before I returned back home. The sky was completely in pink, but only for a few minutes, and I have found a place to stop and get out of the car just seconds before the colors were completely gone:

Are you guys still on the road? If so, I hope you're having great fun, my friend, and if not, I wish you a wonderful weekend 👍🌞

Hi Hannes,

You? A mountain goat getting lost? Impossible, as you will always find your way back 😜 !LOLZ

It seems like we are on the same wavelength, as the accumulated leave will come in very handy before your retire date. Just a pity that you add more leave days to it. 😉

Now here's the thing with me my friend, even if I could, I cannot take 2 weeks off, as even after 4 days I become bored. Maybe it's because of the last 22 years at Papillon, as we could only take a few off every year. So now it's more than enough for me.
I really hope that the two new co-workers will be fast learners, but something tells me that it will not be that easy. But we can always hope 🙏

Wow! You got those beauties just in time, as the pink colors signify that it is the last of the sunset and soon all will turn into a dark grey. But you know this of course 😀
Lovely photos my friend.

We are home now Hannes, and it was a very interesting and relaxing break. I will do a post of the roads back tomorrow, and then during the week I will continue to post some other sights.
I hope that your weekend is also going very well 🙂

Cheers and thanks.

Hi Zac,

oh, I can't even tell you how often I got lost when I tried to find new places or when I thought that I'd be faster on another path ... but I always found my way in the end ... or a way back to the start 🤣 !LOLZ

The problem is that you have to consume your vacation days until the end of the following year, but during the Pandemic they have changed the rules, so you have been able to keep two years ... until the end of 2023 what means I would have to consume my 2022 days until the end of this year if I had time. I'll try to go for a few days in the next weeks, but the rest will have to wait till 2024.

I would love to take 3 or more weeks off, but I think I wouldn't come back after such a long time 😉

If you have your own work and should additionally teach two new colleagues, you can imagine that it's not going to be easy 😅

Thanks that you like the images, Zac, but I wished I would have been there only 10 minutes earlier - the whole sky was pink.

I've been driving around, but didn't take a lot of images, especially no image that I really like, but all in all my weekend has been okay and today was as busy as expected😱

As said in another reply, it's great that you have had a good time during these few days, and I am sure you should have such breaks more often ... just relax and forget the stressful life at home, my friend 😊

Hi Hannes,

As I said before, an Austrian mountain goat will always find his way back 😜 !LOLZ

So, as I understand it, the 2 year period to save your holidays will fall away after 2023. If so, then this sucks as they are saying that the Covid situation will only be restored after another 5 years.

Hahaha, 3 weeks are like a year's absence, and I cannot blame you for not coming back 🤣

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare as one new student is bad, but 2 will give you much headaches, and plus you have to do your own work. What we had at Olivetti when I worked there many years ago, was that any new students had to go to the Olivetti college first, to be taught about the work in which division that they wanted to work in. Maybe you guys must also think about something like this? 😉

Yep! I saw that it was the last of the pink, and you are right, as only 10 minutes earlier, it would have been blazed across the sky for all to see. Btw. When we have pink clouds at sunset, it means that the next day will be hot. 🙂

So, that means that you didn't do any editing and you rather went out to drive around. But be it as it may, you had a good weekend and that's all that counts 👍

Short breaks are scarce my friend, as it all depends on affordability. We often take long day drives there and back, but now with the astronomical price of petrol, this is also scarce.
Over the 22 years at Papillon we have learned to do without, be we should have given more consideration for the health issues. Too late now to cry 😢

Thank you for the care and blessings to you and the family.

Hihi, Zac,

I find my way, that's right, but instead of a sunrise I am there just in time for sunset 😂 !LOLZ

Yep, but in 2027 I should still have the dyys from 2026 and 2027 😁

Any time off work is a good time 😎

Health is more important than anything else - the older I get the more I realise this fact.

Hi Hannes,

It doesn't matter how long it takes to get from a to z, or to return from z to a, as long as you can get photos in between 😜 !LOLZ

That sounds good enough, as at least you will much free time to enjoy just before your retirement. I hope that by that time hive went to the moon, as then you will have enough to come and visit us here in the Cape 😉

Don't worry as after 2027, you will have permanent free time 😳

For sure and I agree, and I know that you will struggle as you age with your fingers for starters. but it is the hidden health issues that start suddenly to appear. I hope that you also don't have many of them, as I suffer constantly with new issues 🙏

Cheers and thanks.

You can be sure that I'll visit you when the Hive moons 👍

Permanent free time if my wife gives me free 😇

I haven't been much ill in my whole life and I am trying to stay healthy till the end ... in a couple of years I'll see if it works 😁

Shortcuts can at times be very difficult to negotiate, and they have a habit to get one in trouble. I think that its Mother nature having fun 🤣 !LOLZ

Glad to hear, as you will have a great time here 😉

Ah yes, the big problem isn't it, but I am sure that the wife will let you to go out sometimes, after you did the dishes, or the washing 😜

It's the roll of the dice my friend. Great that you have never had a serious illness, and I hope that you will get older than the Pope 🙄

Cheers and thanks.

What an unexpected and intense experience you've had!

It's truly a blessing that both of you are safe, even if the car has some battle scars to show for it. Situations like this remind us of the unpredictability of life and the importance of staying vigilant on the road.

It's unfortunate about the insurance situation, but material things can be repaired or replaced - lives cannot. Sending you positive vibes and hopes for a smoother journey ahead @papilloncharity!

Thank you for the great and caring comment @rak7 :)

It is what it is and it was destined for us to happen. Just a serious warning to be aware and to take care.

Too bad about the insurance issue, but we are used to overcoming problems. The bad thing is that we are in the process of selling the car and we have a very good offer for it. Reason being that it is now too heavy on fuel because the fuel prices have rocketed. We run a charity, and we cannot afford to spend a fortune on fuel. I will now fix the car as best as I can and fortunately, I have some experience with fixing cars. The plan is to get a smaller car that is lighter on fuel.

Thank you for the kind wishes and we appreciate it.

Oh yes, these things happen and thank you for the care. I think that there are so many that endure situations like this, and we always think that it is a warning to be careful on the roads.

Rubbing compound to smooth scratches on vehicle then wax, perhaps a local garage will do at half the cost to what insurance, they take money and run for tiny touch up. Of late an additional clause added to insurance, pay more....

Look to possibly checking what is available. 'Act of god' or nature falling down around your head, insurance houses don't really cover much, too many loopholes for them to dive into.

Glad to hear you are both safe!

I got me a bottle of muti called Premier Wax, as they say that it can remove tar, and it really works to take the scratches out without damaging the paint and the glass. It works like a rubbing compound and it also contains wax. A few more scratches to do and then it will be done.

No need for the insurance and thankfully we will not claim as the excess payment on a claim is R4000. Which we don't have. The medical costs are clearing us out slowly but surely.
Thank you and we were fortunate to escape the incident.

Money making racket, trees scratch, certain birds poop also damages paint on cars, can mend the car a lot cheaper than putting savings back into your bank account.

Totally true and that is exactly why I decided to give it a go. Now it all looks like new again and only two unobtrusive little lines remain on a rubber panel. The rest of the body and the glass have no more scratches. A ton of money saved.
