A hidden sweet surprise from hive.
Some of you know about our favorite spot in nature and as we approached, two surprises awaited us. A bad one and a sweet one.
The bad surprise was that they were cutting down the tree behind our bench.
We have a new pest here called a Borer Beetle and the beetles are hollowing the trunks of our trees out. They eat the core of the trunks until only the outer skin of the tree remains.
This is a big danger as the hollow trees cannot withstand the storm strength winds that we get here, and the winds simply blow the trees over.
Some of the hollowed-out trees stand next to houses, and you can imagine the damages when a tree lands on the top of a house. Not even to talk about the trees next to the roads, when they land on cars.
Come and let's have a look.
Something stopped the cutters and they cut a window in the tree.
Look! The core of the tree was filled with bees.
The bees made their hive inside the tree.
So, the cutters made a window in the tree in order to get the bees to pack up and go.
Finally, here below was the reason for cutting the tree down.
The wind ripped a branch off higher up on the tree and the hollow core was exposed. The danger was that, should anyone be sitting on the bench below the tree and a branch came crashing down, then that someone could be a hospital case. And they might sue the parks board.
Here below you can see the hole where the branch was ripped off by the wind.
So, our beloved summer shade tree will soon be no more. We will never have a shade tree again, at least in my lifetime, as a new tree will take many years to grow.
I am allergic to bee stings, and even though they were zooming past my ears, there was no ways that I would pass up the opportunity to show you the sights on our tree. Now we are not the richest people in the world and our lunches are a hit and miss affair, but there is a cafe at a service station not far away, where we buy a pie, or a hot dog each and then we come and eat it on this bench. The mountain views are tremendous to watch from here, but now we will have to find another spot to take a break.
Life is a give and a take story, and one simply has to be prepared for the unexpected events in order to survive.
Such is life, as I always say.
I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

That's really beautiful that you do that.. i.e. just pick up a pie or hot dog and then chill in nature. Life should be more like that. I should be more like that. That's dope my friend.
Sad bout the trea, but understandable. I hope the bees find a new home soon. I adore the little creatures. They are so cute and make the most awesome treat too! Special little things.
Thank you and it's not exactly healthy foods, but it keeps hunger pangs away from the door. The chilling is the part that we love.
My heart always breaks when I see one of the old trees being cut down, but for safety reasons this cannot be avoided. Thankfully there are many other trees around and the bees will certainly find a new home.
You are right, as they are indeed special little things.

It's the simplicity of it that I like so much. There's plenty of time for a healthy meal.. but you're seizing the moment to make memories - dope!
One has to improvise my friend and you are right, the odd bad meal here and there is nothing to panic about. The memories are so much more important.

It is always a bit sad when a tree must be taken down, but sometimes they must be removed and this is a perfect example. The bees were very opportunistic and moved right in to set up house lol. Nature is ever changing. I hope they can get that beetle under control before they demolish many more trees!

(no space) to get help on Hive. InfoOh yes, always sad to see the old giants fall and the beetles have thus far destroyed many of our trees. Not only over here, but also in other parts of our country.
As for the bees, they are entrepreneurs, and they will soon find another place to set up their honey factory !LOLZ
