A dwarf gecko catching lunch.

I will show you step by step how this little one eats a big bug.

Shame, he lost a toe somewhere if you look at his right front foot.

The Cape dwarf gecko (Lygodactylus capensis)('lygodactylus' = 'flexible fingers') is a species of dwarf gecko found in the woodlands and forests of central and southern Africa. It also occurs commonly in towns and cities and is sometimes kept as a pet.
It occurs in South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Mozambique and Tanzania, including Pemba Island. Its distribution within South Africa has expanded south- and westwards towards the coastal areas since 1981.

This was how mankind learned how to go for the head of their prey.

The bug was alive and fiercely kicking away, but it had no chance against this little gecko warrior.

Just imagine if you had to battle like this to eat your lunch.
084.JPG

Happy days. He saw me at the same time as he started to swallow the bug.
086.JPG

A real little actor with that smile on his face.
090.JPG

And then it was done. I watched his stomach carefully to see if the bug would still be kicking inside his stomach, but no go as that bug was dead. A happy chappy with a full stomach.

Now when I say a dwarf gecko, is that this little guy barely 5cm in length is an adult lizard. I have published one previously eating a small moth, but I did not get it as clear as this event. Now you know how dwarf geckos hunt and eat their prey. I was just joking about the smiling, as he couldn't see me taking the photos through the glass window of our lounge. I would also not have seen him, if she hadn't called me anxiously and she said, Shame, look at that. Can I not go out to go and save that little bug? No, I said, that little gecko will not be very happy if you go and snatch his lunch away. Imagine if you sit in a restaurant with your meal on the table and somebody comes to snatch it away:)) I am sure that you will not be very happy.
Such is a lizard's life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Being swallowed alive sounds dreadful, but it's a cockroach that's being swallowed so...

Now there you go, I deliberately didn't mention that it was a cockroach, as it would turn people off.
But it is indeed one and we are just as happy that it is now in the gecko's stomach !LOLZ

I love geckos, there are a lot here in my country (Venezuela), they use to live in houses and apartments eating mosquitos, cocroaches, butterflies, moths, spiders and many other kind of small bugs. I use to catch them to save them from cats, they are so cute 💗

We love them too, and this one is a smaller one than the normal geckos, as they are called dwarfs called Enana in Spanish. But he is an adult, and I am glad that you save them from cats. !LOL

Yes, the bug is a cockroach. The gecko is an adult, and a dwarf means that they are abnormally smaller than normal sized geckos. I made a joke about snatching its meal away, as we would never do that.

I can totally relate to wanting to save the bug, but I guess it's just how the food chain works.
