Twisters (2024) - Movie Review
Hello friends! Now i will talk about a Hollywood disaster film. Disaster does not mean box office disaster, genre is disaster. A film called Twisters came out. A movie came out in the 1990s called Twister. It is a stand-alone sequel. If you haven't seen the first part, no problem. The second part is a stand-alone story.
I saw the movie Twister a long time ago as a kid. Disaster films were a favorite to watch at that time.
There was a movie called Volcano. When I was a kid, there was a lot of hype about Day After Tomorrow. Jake Gyllenhaal was in the film. Then, when I was a little older, I saw the movie 2012 in 2012. There the whole world is destroyed. I was very attracted to disaster films then. Especially the spectacle scenes were great.
Watched many disaster films later. Hollywood has made plenty of movies that have scale, but no soul. However, I was interested in this film because its first part was a blockbuster. However, it was not interested only because of the sequel. I became interested because of its director, who had previously made a drama-based movie called Minari. Moreover, its narrator is the author of Top Gun: Maverick. These attracted me a lot.
But this film gave a good experience. Know what's in it? They have taken the disaster scenes to a new level this time.
Movie Experience:
Tornadoes are the villains here. Especially the climax scenes are absolutely wonderful! When you sit down and watch the scenes, it will be quite a visual treat.
When you watch these survival scenes, the storm is coming, and how the characters survive, the thrill will be really good. Especially the climax is amazing. When designed with visual tension, it still gives the audience a great experience.
However, such movies are worthwhile only when they contain not only spectacle but also some emotional content. For example, in 2012 we saw a family story, which connects you emotionally. Similarly, Day After Tomorrow featured a father-son relationship. Those emotional elements are very important.
This movie also has a story of a girl. He was doing research on tornadoes. She had to lose all her friends and boyfriends in that study. Then he left his hometown. After many years, he had to return again.
There is another character, who is a YouTuber. He makes fun videos about tornadoes. A relationship develops between these two characters, which also has a bit of a love angle.
Can they use new technology to stop tornadoes? That is the story of the film. Eglen Pubel and Daisy Edgar-Jones are excellent performers. The chemistry and relationship change between them was realistic and enjoyable.
Final Thoughts:
Although the emotional depth is not as deep as 2012 or other films, the film has a core message. The message is, you have to face your fear. The storm took away a lot from the girl's life. But in the end, he embarks on a new journey to get something back.
The film depicts a character's journey and his transformation beautifully. The director has confirmed that there is not just spectacle but a human story as well.
The sound design was fantastic. Loved the camera work and technical aspects. So, if you want to have an entertaining experience, don't miss Twisters.
Disaster movies do hit differently. Sometimes I imagine myself in the place of the characters and think: what would I do in this situation? What step would I take? How would I feel? They evoke my thought processes.
Now, imagine being in a huge tornado? Hmmm... That'd be really crazy.
To be honest, for me it can be incredibly scary and exciting at the same time.
