Impact of civic education in enhancing environmental awareness....27/11/2024

Civil education is essential for raising environmental awareness in Nigerian schools. When I reflect on my personal experiences, I realise how they affected my perception of the environment and my responsibility to it. Civil education taught me the value of safeguarding our natural resources and promoting sustainable behaviours.
This knowledge increased my awareness of how my actions influence the environment. In school, civil education taught me that environmental protection is not only the government's responsibility, but also mine as a citizen.
I learnt about the negative effects of pollution, deforestation, and poor waste management, which inspired me to make better decisions like properly disposing of waste and saving water.
This understanding also inspired me to campaign for change in my community. I began to share what I had learnt with others, encouraging them to participate in activities such as tree planting and clean-up efforts.
It was eye-opening to observe how civil education could motivate people to work together to make the environment cleaner and healthier. Civil education, in my opinion, goes beyond simply studying laws and governance; it empowers us to become responsible environmental stewards.
By instilling these ideals in schools, we can raise a generation that is not just informed but also actively striving to protect Nigeria's natural beauty and resources.
