El conjunto Marroquí tenía por delante una cita con la historia, en sus manos estaba el poder clasificarse a la siguiente ronda de una Copa del Mundo 36 años después, enfrente tenían a una selección canadiense que ha querido, ha propuesto, pero no ha podido y llegaba a este choque sin ninguna posibilidad de clasificarse a los octavos de final y que, con el resultado de hoy, ha igualado el funesto récord de haber perdido sus primeros 6 partidos en Copas del Mundo igualando a, otra selección de CONCACAF, El Salvador.
Triste despedida del conjunto Canadiense que enseñó buenas cosas, sobre todo en el partido de la primera jornada, dónde cayó injustamente ante la gris Bélgica, la debacle de hoy para los “Maple Leaves” ha tenido su génesis muy pronto en el encuentro, se combina el error inicial de Steven Vitoria con una tremenda pifia del arquero nómada Milan Borjan, su despeje cayó en los pies de Hakim Ziyech que aprovechó el regalo y definió la temprana ventaja para los Leones del Atlas.

Han igualado su mejor participación histórica y han mostrado sus credenciales para soñar con superarla.

Hoy en las arenas del desierto Qatarí se ha terminado extraviando una de las generaciones doradas del fútbol europeo, la selección Belga de Roberto Martínez prometía muchísimo y ha terminado entregando nada más que un fútbol pobre y la triste imagen de un vestidor fracturado, de rencillas entre compañeros, y polémicas baratas. Bélgica quedará en la historia de esta Copa del Mundo como una gran plantilla que jamás supo ser un equipo.
El sabor de boca que deja su partida de esta Copa del Mundo es amargo para aquellos quienes nos quedamos esperando por verlos brillar. Hoy, el conjunto Croata de Zlatko Dalic volvió a jugar en poco en esa escala de grises que se escapa diametralmente a la vistosidad de esa camiseta blanquirroja ajedrezada que nunc defrauda, escapa también a las expectativas que genera la subcampeona del Mundo; pero aún sin brillo pusieron más ímpetu y ganas de trascender que aquellos Diablos sin Infierno que tenían enfrente.
Si los balcánicos pusieron las ganas, los belgas tuvieron las ocasiones para ganarlo, pero todas ellas se terminaron diluyendo en un repertorio de increíbles fallas por parte de Romelu Lukaku. No fue una noche brillante para una selección croata que terminó jugando con fuego, y a la que el brío, el sudor, la entrega y las ganas le han bastado para evitar lo que pudo ser una dolorosa eliminación. Para el recuerdo quedará ese penalti concedido a Croacia que después se echó para atrás en uno de esos análisis milimétricos y casi incomprensibles del VAR, como quedará también en la memoria la Bélgica que pudo ser y no ha querido.

If the Balkans had the desire, the Belgians had the chances to win it, but all of them ended up being diluted in a repertoire of incredible misses by Romelu Lukaku. It wasn't a brilliant night for a Croatian team that ended up playing with fire, and for whom the verve, sweat, commitment and desire were enough to avoid what could have been a painful elimination. The penalty awarded to Croatia that was later overturned in one of those millimetric and almost incomprehensible VAR analyses will remain in the memory, as will the Belgium team that could have been and didn't want to be.

UN TSUNAMI AZUL
A BLUE TSUNAMI
Un tsunami es esa ola incontenible que destroza todo a su paso cuando azota una bahía, tiene una fuerza descomunal e irrefrenable. La pospuesta de Hajime Moriyasu en su selección japonesa es justo esa, un Tsunami incontenible. Hoy en el Estadio Internacional de Khalifa, han rubricado un Mundial histórico para la nación del Sol naciente. Japón ha derrotado a la selección española de Luis Enrique de exactamente el mismo modo en que lo hizo con Alemania en la jornada 1.
Al inicio de esta Copa del Mundo, la gran mayoría presagiaba que el conjunto nipón estaba llamado a jugar tres partidos y volver a casa -al igual que Costa Rica-; todos apuntábamos a que la historia de este grupo pasaría por ver quien, entre Alemania y España, lograba clasificarse como líder y quien como segundo puesto. ¡Los nipones no figuraban! No se podía haber estado más equivocado.
A tsunami is that uncontainable wave which destroys everything in its path when it hits a bay, it has an enormous and unstoppable force. Hajime Moriyasu's postponement of his Japan team is just that, an unstoppable Tsunami. Today at the Khalifa International Stadium, they have sealed a historic World Cup for the nation of the rising sun. Japan defeated Luis Enrique's Spain team in exactly the same way they defeated Germany on Matchday 1.
At the start of this World Cup, the vast majority predicted that Japan were destined to play three games and go home - just like Costa Rica - and we were all predicting that the story of this group would be who, between Germany and Spain, would finish top and who would finish second. The Japanese were not in it! You couldn't have been more wrong.
Los de Moriyasu se jugaban la vida ante la Roja que parecía tener el camino allanado ya no solamente para clasificarse a la siguiente ronda, sino para hacerlo como primer lugar de su grupo, más aún cuando a los 11 minutos de juego Morata remató de cabeza un buen servicio de Azpilicueta y con ello perfilaba el juego a su favor. Tras el gol, España se dedicó a pelotear sin mayor sentido, no hubo rastro de aquel tiqui-taca que buscaba abrir espacios, un fútbol indolente y soporífero que buscaba marear a sus rivales sin más consecuencia que el paseo.
Japón que ya había avisado de sus capacidades, de su anarquía y de esa manera de revolucionarlo todo en cuestión de simples minutos, no tuvo empacho en volverlo a hacer para castigar la indolencia de España. un robo de pelota en la salida de España terminó con Rotsu Doan, -sí, el mismo que encabezó la marejada japonesa ante Alemania- impactando es esférico sin miramiento alguno para empatar el marcador, y tan solo tres minutos después, nuevamente Doan, ahora con un centro que Mitoma rescató cuando la pelota se iba por la raya final para que Ao Tanaka firmase la sentencia española con un nuevo maremoto incontenible de fútbol.
Inolvidable episodio mundialista para la selección nipona, que pasó de estar eliminada a casi, por la combinación de resultados que se estaba dando en simultáneo, eliminar dos Campeonas del Mundo. España ha dejado ir el primer puesto y se clasificó segunda del grupo gracias a que Alemania supo remontar su propia debacle ante Costa Rica, de lo contrario estaríamos hablando de un batacazo de proporciones mayúsculas.
Moriyasu's men were playing for their lives against La Roja, who seemed to have already paved the way not only to qualify for the next round, but to do so as first place in their group, even more so when after 11 minutes Morata headed in a good service from Azpilicueta and with that the game was in their favour. After the goal, Spain were just a bunch of balling without much sense, there was no trace of that tiqui-taca that sought to open spaces, an indolent and soporific football that sought to make their opponents dizzy without any other consequence than a walk.
Japan, who had already warned of their capabilities, their anarchy and their way of revolutionising everything in a matter of minutes, had no qualms about doing it again to punish Spain's indolence. A steal of the ball at Spain's exit ended with Rotsu Doan - yes, the same one who led the Japanese tidal wave against Germany - hitting the ball without any consideration to tie the score, and just three minutes later, Doan again, now with a cross that Mitoma rescued when the ball was going over the end line for Ao Tanaka to sign the Spanish sentence with a new unstoppable tidal wave of football.
An unforgettable World Cup episode for the Japanese team, who went from being eliminated to almost, due to the combination of results that were happening simultaneously, eliminating two World Champions. Spain dropped out of first place and qualified second in the group thanks to Germany's ability to come back from their own debacle against Costa Rica, otherwise we would be talking about a shock of major proportions.

Fútbol y Alemania son palabras que son complejas de apartar, no por nada Gary Lineker acuñó aquella célebre frase que rezaba: "El fútbol es un deporte que inventaron los ingleses, que se juega 11 contra 11 y siempre gana Alemania". Por segundo Mundial consecutivo, el fútbol ha quitado la razón a aquel mítico futbolista inglés de los 80’s. Si ya, aquel correctivo que se llevó el fútbol alemán en Rusia 2018 se antojaba difícil de creer, lo que ha ocurrido en Qatar 2022 lo es aún más.
Cuando aquel paló en las beligerantes tierras gobernadas por Vladimir Putin tuvo lugar, no quedó piedra sobre piedra en la Mannschaft, Joachim Löw técnico campeón del mundo con los teutones fue destituido del cargo y muchos integrantes de la “vieja guardia” alemana dieron un paso al costado. Hoy, una nueva camada de jugadores comandados por Müller y Neuer ha tenido la misma suerte que aquella que les precedió 4 años atrás.
Tras 16 Copas del Mundo superando la fase de grupos, Alemania ha quedado eliminada en fase de grupos en dos Mundiales consecutivos. Es cierto que no dependían de sí mismos al llegar a esta última fecha tras la estrepitosa caída inicial contra Japón y el empate ante España, es cierto también que Alemania ha hecho los deberes en esta última fecha al revertir su propia debacle ante una Selección de Costa Rica que les había remontado el 0-1 inicial y les ponía contra las cuerdas -y a España también casi sin saberlo-; pero a los de Hansi Flick no les bastó. La remontada para sellar una victoria (2-4) no ha sido suficiente. Alemania se vuelve a sumergir en el drama absoluto de una eliminación demasiado temprana, una nueva mancha sobre su historia y su blanca camiseta que, a vista de todos está, no juega por sí sola. Costa Rica, con un Mundial bastante pobre le acompaña en su dolor.

Vaya Mundial el que estamos presenciando, no será el mejor en términos de nivel futbolísticos, pero sí en cuanto a la cantidad de equipos "sorpresas" en Octavos de Final. Si antes de que comenzara la Copa me decían que en las fases finales tendríamos a selecciones como Australia, Japón y Marruecos, seguramente los vería con cara de incredulidad, y aún falta por definir dos grupos, en el último de ellos el seleccionado con menos chances era uno de los favoritos a avanzar, Uruguay.

La verdad es que la sorpresas están a la orden del día en esta Copa del Mundo, el termino "sorpresa" se ha convertido en un habitué en las crónicas, análisis y demás de todos los compañeros periodistas. Al momento en que te escribo esta respuesta, Uruguay se está clasificando con la combinación de resultados que se da en el Portugal vs Corea; veremos en que termina la historia.
