Los lobos viven en colonias que son dominadas por machos dominantes (muy territoriales) que tienen harenes que pueden llegar hasta 30 hembras quienes deben estar siempre disponibles para cuando quiera servirlas. Tienen un comportamiento agresivo y si las hembras no acceden a aparearse puede matar a las crías de pariciones anteriores (aplastandolos) o bien matar a la hembra.

The wolves live in colonies that are dominated by dominant (very territorial) males that have harems that can reach up to 30 females who should always be available for when they want to serve them. They have an aggressive behavior and if the females do not agree to mate, they can kill the offspring of previous births (crush them) or kill the female.

Existe un gran dimorfismo sexual; los machos son mucho más grandes y pueden llegar a pesar hasta el triple que las hembras.

There is a great sexual dimorphism; males are much larger and can weigh up to triple that of females.

El macho dominante generalmente debe refrendar su condición de tanto en tanto ya que cuando las crías llegan a su estado de madurez sexual, suelen intentar disputarle el lugar. El macho que salga vencedor se quedará con todo el harén y el vencido deberá abandonar la colonia.

The dominant male generally must endorse his condition from time to time since when the young reach their state of sexual maturity, they usually try to dispute the place. The male who wins will remain with all the harem and the defeated must leave the colony.

En época de ballenas puede encontrarse a las crías interactuando con las ballenatos el cual constituye un espectáculo muy lindo de observar. Como toda cría, son muy inquietos y requiere de un gran seguimiento de la hembra ya que no tienen percepción del peligro.

In times of whales the young can be found interacting with the whales which is a very nice spectacle to watch. Like all young, they are very restless and require a great monitoring of the female since they have no perception of danger.
