My Mindful Approach To Eating - LOH #220

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome πŸ€—

Even though I am not a big eater, I still value my overall well-being, which makes me very mindful of what I eat. I strongly believe that what we eat plays a significant role in our well-being.

So back to the question of whether I have eating habits or not. I actually have eating habits. I don't eat any kind food. I choose what I eat. I ensure I eat a complete balanced diet, and as much as possible, I avoid food with unhealthy fat, food with too much sugar or salt, and I hardly take soda.

Also, I eat slowly. I don't know how to rush my meals or eat in a haste. I remember one time when I was still in the boarding house in high school, I and my friends joined our food together in a big tray. That was my first time ever of joining them, and I noticed how every one of them was rushing the food, so I decided to join them, and at my first attempt, I choked, and tears were literally coming out of my eyes. Never again did I try that.
I cannot eat fast, not even to save my life.

I know there are people that don't drink water while they are still eating; that can't be me. I drink water in between my meals whenever I am eating.

And most importantly, I pay attention to hunger and fullness cues. Once I'm full, I stop eating. I know few persons that even when they are full, they continue eating. That is a very unhealthy eating habit. Your stomach has its capacity, which should be respected and not exceeded if you want to live a healthy life.

In answering the question "do you tend to eat whatever you crave for?"

No, I don't. It's normal for us as humans to have different food cravings, but I don't agree to attending to them always. Most of the things we crave are unhealthy. Most of this food, snacks, or junk can lead to weight gain because of the high calories, sugar, or fat in them. And the more we ingest these things into our system, the more we expose our bodies to adverse health conditions and repercussions that were avoidable, if only we stuck to the guidelines.

I'm also a very slow eater. I take my time to chew properly and that's the reason I don't like eating with people. During the holidays and due to the full house, we started feeding two to one. I ate with my sister, after my first experience of not eating to my satisfaction and having her eat more than me, I will always demarcate our meal. Once she's done with hers, she gets up lol.

Wow, that sounds like quite the experience! I can see why you'd be hesitant to rush your meals after that. Eating slowly isn’t a bad thing at allβ€”seems like you actually get to savor your food more and enjoy the whole eating experience. Plus, it’s great for digestion! Stick to your pace, no need to rush the good stuff. 🍽️

It is interesting; oftentimes, we get down a road and might not even realize we've forgotten 'how' to eat. Re-learning and eating as you describe can be a hard process for one who has forgotten.

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

I'm not sure I'm a slow eater but I'm not fast either lol, but yeah, I can't do without water in between my meals like you.
Not all cravings should be attended to, that's a good one.

You are very disciplined for eating slowly and mindfully. That means enjoying every bite, savoring the flavor and such. Thank you for sharing.

You are right. Most times, when I see that the food I am craving for isn't healthy, I don't eat it. I only crave something I know would benefit and nourish me and not waste money on junks

I can eat slow or fast depending on the circumstances. I also tend to eat a lot and yet my body weight is still the same.

Before I could eat anything and it won't show in my body, but it's no longer same. Ones I eat a little it will show on my stomach

Eating thoroughly with only what you need and plenty of fluids are Good habits to keep up. Most of us consume more calories than we need.
High calorie and fats junk foods are a curse in the western developed countries. It's too convenient, too widely available, poor habits forming and the consumption of such products are proven of little benefit leading to various chronic issues.

I agree with you, people go for what is convenient and available instead of healthy
