Let's celebrate Splinterlands' 6 year anniversary with a bang!
Hello there.
The day has finally come, and Splinterlands is now celebrating its 6 year anniversary. Two weeks ago, I talked about the history. Last week, I talked about the plans for the future and a guide for newer/future players. This time, I'll talk about the now; what is happening to celebrate Splinterlands' anniversary, and events coming up. If you are not following the Splinterlands Hive account, you should since they post updates and information.
In one of their latest posts, they gave a brief overview of what's to come. For the gameplay, they have New Player Experience, Land 2.0, housing, player avatars, card skins, boss battles lined up, with many more still planned. The NPE will be perfect once the bull market comes full swing and we get new players. Land 2.0 and housing are perfect for veterans and whales that don't know what to do with all their cards and assets. Player avatars and card skins will really amp up the customizability of the game and let players show off. Finally, the boss battles is a long awaited gameplay that a lot of players are excited about. Splinterforge has a version of it, so it will be interesting to see how the team puts their own twist on it.
Over on Twitter, the team are creating different posts. They are starting by reminiscing about some of the significant times in Splinterlands history. So far, they seem to be going from recent to older. They have posted about the upcoming anniversary tournament, the Glint Shop, Zyriel, and Splinterlands' migration to the Hive Blockchain. But that's not all. The celebration wouldn't be complete if there are no prizes up for grabs. The team is giving away 335 Rebellion Booster packs to 120 lucky winners that follow, share, like, and comment on the anniversary posts. The posts will run from May 23rd to May 31st, and entries within 48 hours from the post's creation will be eligible. If you're joining, don't forget to add the hashtag #ageofthebattlemage. I also saw some posters add their IGN.
On May 31st, the team will also host the RISE OF THE CHAMPION tournament. This will be the biggest tournament of the year. The tournament is open to all, but KYC is required. The tournament will be in Modern league, and all participants will be provided max level ghost cards, so everyone will be on an even playing field cards wise; no need to rent or delegate cards. Diamond and Champ players will have a bit of advantage because they have experience playing with max level cards, as opposed to those playing in Bronze or Silver. Whales with complete decks can also get a leg up, since they wouldn't have choice paralysis, and are familiar with the different combos available. But if the experience of being able to play with this awesome setup is not enough, there are amazing prizes for those that will be able to do well in the tournament.
Rebellion packs are given to the top 138. DEC are included for the top 61. Plots are added on top for the top 10. And the top 2 players get all that plus an additional Runi. Did I mention that the 1st place player gets 1 million DEC, and the 2nd placer gets 500 thousand DEC? Those are really awesome rewards so make sure to get ready for it, and may the best battle mage win.
I usually play in tournaments, and even I am not confident I can get into the top 138. I have one experience with max level ghost cards, and it did not work out as well as I wanted it. I got choice paralysis in my battles, and I was unfamiliar with the different combos and strategies. The good thing, is that this tournament is Modern. There will be significantly less cards available, so it shouldn't be as difficult to choose. What will probably bring some difficulty, are the airdrop cards. These are not easily attainable, and they can rent for a lot in the market, so a lot of players might not have enough experience with them. Those that own them already have a head start and have already come up with optimal strategies. To compensate, I'll probably be looking at Diamond and Champ Top battles to get familiar with the meta up there.
The celebration has just started, and I am already full of excitement for what's coming, especially the tournament. It is in times like these that I really miss SplinterlandsTV. A place where we can watch Splinterlands gameplay, talk to other players, and just hang out. I guess the Discord server and Twitter are a good alternative. So if you haven't already, don't forget to join the Splinterlands Discord serve, and check out the Twitter posts.
Are you excited for the upcoming tournament? Are you going to join in on the fun? Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if you have suggestions for improvement.
