Documenting my Splinterlands Knowledge - When to use your Glint on Chests
Hello there.
We recently started the new season, and with it comes the Glint from the EOS rewards. A lot of players must be swimming in Glint right now, and for newer/beginner players, they might have some trouble deciding what to do with their glint. As for what to buy with the glint, I made a post about it a while back. For this post, I will try to help on the when to use it.
If you are not a Champ player, my first suggestion is to hold off on using your glint if you plan on buying chests. If you are just buying Rarity Draws, then buy away. This is because chests contain Energy, and getting energy this early on in the season can be disadvantageous to you. If you are a champ players, there is an argument to using glint early and try to get to Champ league as quickly as possible to get the high glint and SPS there.
Strong players playing early and trying to get to the higher leagues quickly is one of the reasons to not only spend glint early, but also to try to delay playing ranked for weaker players. If you finish in Silver 2/1 last season and win early on in the new season, there is a high chance of facing players that finished Gold 2/3 last season. Not only will the chance of getting wins get lower, but it is possible that the energy from the chests will be wasted.
On top of possibly being wasted due to a loss, another reason to hold off on spending glint on chests early on is the rating reset. Since players get lower rating at the start of the season, their SPS earnings per win also goes lower. So if you get more energy from chests and face harder opponents, you can get stuck in the lower leagues and miss out on higher SPS later on. That is why I suggest using your glint when you reach your usual rating.
Speaking of SPS rewards, saving the chest energies for when the reward pools are replenished/high is also a good reason to wait a bit before using one's glint. I don't know if it is still up to date, but splex shows the reward pools. It is usually lower directly after EOS, and players who know this, wait for it to replenish before playing. Seeing Diamond in modern being low shows my theory of Champ players scrambling to get back to Champ league might have some merit.
For me, I usually use my glint near the middle of the season. I usually play between Gold 3 and 2, and I use my glint when I reach Gold 3 and is facing my usual opponents. If I am still facing max level cards in Gold 3, I will hold off on using glint.
Once you decide to finally use your glint, I recommend not using them all in one go. I have seen some posts of people doing that, and they can end up with energy above the max. Not only does it force them to play so much in one day, but I think it also prevents energy gain while it is above the max. What I usually do is open 10 at a time and consume any energy I get. If I still have time to play, I keep doing that. If I get tilted or don't have enough time to play, I just stop and open the chests another day.
That is it for my guide on when to use glint on chests. Do you buy reward chests or rarity draws? Do you have any tips you want to share on your glint usage? Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if you have suggestions for improvement.
