Good day community

Throughout my life chained experiences have happened to me, this is the case that I am presenting to you today and it meant a total change for me. This experience is based on my own life and how taking some steps leads to unexpected, unplanned situations. Sometimes we have plans and we try to follow them as we have proposed them, other times it is the turn or the arrival at the corner that makes the vision and the path vary depending on the direction to take. The story begins in a restoration company where I was working in the north of my country, in Galicia, Spain. It was dedicated to repair, restoration and painting and at that time we were working in the regional capital of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela. My then bosses got a subcontract to fix an old building in the city of Badajoz, an old palace that now belonged to the city. To locate the provincial capital, it is located in the west of the country, bordering Portugal, it is one of the two provinces that make up the autonomous community of Extremadura. Historical border city where there are since it is located in a strategic place as a border crossing, commercial and crossroads.

I accepted that job offer but I had to move for a while to live in it since it is more than 500 kilometers from where I have always lived, until that moment. Badajos presented itself to me as a different city from those I knew in the north, which are stronger and historically different. A cosmopolitan, commercial, tourist, university city that is constantly growing. Walking through its oldest part, I realized the great influence of a remote past through the archaeological remains and its surprising citadel. Undoubtedly, the years of Muslim rule in the city were noticeable in its old walls, towers, buildings and even in culinary aspects or ways of feeling and expressing themselves.

That's how I arrived and immediately settled down to live in it, it is a relatively large city crossed by the Guadiana river, one of the most important in the country and life in it is relatively comfortable. The level and quality of life is medium high and the economy is quite affordable. Months passed and I made incursions into many towns in the area, Mérida, capital of the community, Almendralejo, Zafra, until I began to move further north, to the other sister province, Cáceres.

Cáceres is a northern city, with a sober and ancient appearance in a large part of the city, since historically it was of great strategic, military and social importance. When I met her I fell in love with her and finishing my job in the neighboring city I decided to settle down and live there. Also a meeting place for cultures, the Roman Empire on the peninsula already had it as an important stronghold but it was the Muslims who really influenced its appearance for centuries. Time later and already in the period of the reconquest by Christianity it was adopted as a key point of important noble families.

Tourist city, partly walled, well preserved, small, quiet and cosmopolitan. For some years I have been living in it and its history, festivals, customs and its friendly people never cease to amaze me. I invite all those who like to visit it as it is one of the few European cities that is within the designation of world heritage city.

The ivy is fascinating, I wonder how many years it took to grow.

Well, it probably takes about 40 or 50 years, although I suppose it will come from further back but renewed. @richardslater
