CHRISTMAS IN MY FAMILY. LOH #211

Over here in Nigeria or should I say in Africa we don't really celebrate Halloween but we have a lot of holidays when I say a lot I mean a lots it just depends on your religion or culture, holidays like the new year, Valentine's Day, teachers day, Easter holiday, democracy/ national day, independence day, Eid-el fitr (the Muslims holiday) and so on just to mention a few, but the greatest of holidays is the Christmas/ end of the year holiday.

This holiday is a time and period where people from all around the continent or should I say even the world come back to their homes to their extended family and celebrate as one. Yesterday I wrote about my experience during the Christmas holiday when we went to visit my grandma in the village as a young child. Then we do go to the village to see my grandma but not anymore since we all are grown and we can go at our separate time, now the Christmas celebration is within my nuclear family where we come together as one and we play, cook a lot of delicacies, according to my Dad that day is “ A day of grace” where you can do anything you like whether good or bad and still get away with it, but you still have to be careful.

Nowadays, it's a different case entirely and that's because we have all left home, my elder sisters are married and they live very far away from home, I and my elder brother are in school the times where we could go home we go home and that is if the holiday period is long enough for us to travel, if not we stay behind and sometimes transportation is a hindrance. Thank God for technology, so we had to improve, the time where we don't come together as a family we do a family facetime together and share gifts and words of prayers for one another and that's the end of it. It might sound boring to you but it is very interesting, because it is a time to let it all out and enjoy the atmosphere and presence of your family (be it online or physical).
Thanks for stopping by my blog. See you soon. 🤗

peace out ✌️

It is very touching to do family FaceTime together, especially sharing words of prayers for each other, as you say thanks to technology,

Things change and with family members going apart for different reasons (marriage, work, etc), we don't always get to celebrate occasions altogether. But like you said, thanks to technology for allowing us to share good tidings virtually.

I've never heard of that!
But I suppose you didn't do anything bad, @onyinye-chi, !LOL

Especially when your geography doesn’t have the dramatic change in the seasonal cycles, that gave rise to some of the original folk culture. “A day of grace…” One of these days I could do a bit of research around that.
Busy schedule? Most of us are familiar with that problem. I’m sure we all prefer to with family in person for special occasions like Christmas.
Thanks for sharing.

Although technology keeps us together, despite the distance, there is nothing better than feeling close to your loved ones, being able to give them a hug, but the world has changed so much, I remember that when my grandmother was alive, always in December, even my uncles who lived far away, came to be together and welcome the new year at my grandmother's house, all that changed after her death.

I hope you can have your Thanksgiving party in the warmth of your home, if it is not possible, at least by FaceTime. God bless you 🙏🏼

Holidays are a great period to spend quality time with family.

Thank God for technology that can help you bridge the gap and reach out to your family even when you're not there.

We do celebrate Christmas too and it's usually a fun time eating, drinking and visiting our friends and families 🙂
