A SUMPTUOUS DELICACY

We are all from different nations with diverse cultures, ethnicity, and the likes and we have our different food and food combinations. I'm from the Eastern part of Delta state in the southern part of Nigeria and we have different dishes allocated to our tribe (who did the allocation 😁) I don't know. In my culture we have several delicacies, delicacies like ofe iroro (melon soup) ofe onugbu(bitter leaf soup), ofe Oha etc . (In my culture ofe means soup).

My favorite dish anywhere, day, anytime, is egusi soup, also known as Mellon soup, and then accompanied by fufu (fermented cassava); now I feel like eating melon soup cooked by my mum. A dish passed down from generation to generation and this is what I mean, I grew up realizing that egusi soup and fufu were my paternal grandmother's favorite dish and also that was her mum's favorite dish 😁 now the funny thing here or should I say the plot twist is even though the egusi soup is my favorite I still end up in the toilet every single time I eat it, I'm always purging but all the same I still love it. My mummy would always say I have a very soft stomach.

My dad too is a lover of melon soup, and of course I know how to prepare this "great delicacy" , let me take you on the journey on how to prepare melon (egusi) soup, sit tight.

Ingredients for making melon (egusi) soup.

  1. blended egusi (melon)seed
  2. fish (depending on the fish you want it could be fresh or smoked).
  3. beef, chicken, pork (your preference )
  4. oil
  5. seasoning
  6. Onion
  7. crayfish and lastly
  8. the vegetable (pumpkin leaf)
    I have seen people add tomato paste to their egusi soup but I don't think I like that.

Steps to making this sumptuous delicacy.

1)First, you steam your beef, chicken or whatever you choose to use, then set aside.

  1. The next step is to pour your oil in your pot (mind you people have different ways of preparing this) allow to get hot then add your blended melon seed to it (either dried or mixed with water ). Then continue stirring to avoid burning then wait for it to form lumps and after that add a little water because there's the meat stock.
  2. Add your proteins (fish,meat) then cover to simmer for some minutes then add your seasonings to your taste.
  3. Here comes the part to add the vegetables which is also the last part after adding the vegetable(pumpkin) stir, allow to simmer a bit and
  4. Food is ready.
