PESO-REGUA.jpg

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

Our visit to Régua began early, on a sunny day, which illuminated the mountains and the vast Douro valley. The city woke up peacefully, with the gentle breeze bringing the freshness of the river waters and the smell of the earth. It was the perfect setting for a trip that promised to be full of discoveries and beautiful landscapes. The objective was clear: to find the almond trees in bloom, one of the landmarks of spring in the Douro, and to walk through the streets and riverbanks of the city.

Upon arriving in the city, we immediately realized that its history and tradition are deeply linked to the Douro River. The typical houses and vineyards that stretch across the hills are a testament to the vitality of this wine region, renowned worldwide for its Port wine.

We walked through the city streets, admiring the old buildings and small traditional shops, where typical regional products are sold. As we moved away from the center, the wine landscapes came to life. The city was preparing for the arrival of the almond blossoms, a natural spectacle that we would seek out later.

After a stroll around the city, we headed to a restaurant overlooking the Douro River. Lunch, with the stunning scenery to accompany it, was truly wonderful. Grilled meat, accompanied by regional wine, was the main dish. The relaxed atmosphere and panoramic view made us feel as if time stood still, just to enjoy the moment.

After lunch, we decided to walk along the shore, following the calm course of the Douro. The walk was peaceful and, along the way, we saw ducks and even had time to play a little in the park.

Régua's sweets are irresistible. Made from sugar, honey, lemon and butter, these little sweets are an example of the region's sweetness and authenticity. There's even a secret ingredient they refuse to share. They are sold in small packages, with the packaging evoking the tradition and simplicity of life in the Douro. These ladies, with their welcoming smiles, are a true icon of the city, offering visitors a piece of the history and flavor of Régua.

The search for almond trees in bloom, the walk along the shore, the lunch overlooking the river and the sweet taste of Régua's sweets were moments that will remain in our memories. A visit that, without a doubt, deserves to be repeated.

I was ecstatic with the whole tour, it really was a ride that I see you enjoyed immensely.
I loved the pictures with the ducks, there were so many of them!
It looks like a town you want to go to when you want to get away from everything you know, and I love that.

What a poetic journey! I almost felt the Douro breeze… though my stomach felt more of the grilled meat part 😆. But that ‘secret ingredient’ in the sweets has me intrigued… is it magic or just great marketing? 🤔🍬

Hi there @rutasdedavid! Really glad that the pictures made U fell that way :-) Regarding the sweets they are cheap and handmade. Maybe the secret ingredient is the love they put into it 😊
