Exploring the city's alleys - Casa do Arco do Bispo
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
Let's end our visit to this beautiful city and move on to another. I have received many comments about these last two posts about Castelo Branco which, I confess, made me emotional knowing that I managed to convey emotions and memories with my photos and with the description of the places that I have the privilege of being able to visit. I have always enjoyed visiting and getting to know new places, people, cultures and here I have received feedback that I was not at all expecting. For this reason, thank you!
When I was a kid, our holidays were spent traveling from one place to another. The funniest thing is that there was nothing planned. We packed our bags, got in the car and off we went. When we arrived in a new city, we looked for a guesthouse and stayed for a night or two. My father was a transporter, with some permanent clients and then moved houses. His work meant that he spent many hours on the street and for that reason he traveled around the country, thus getting to know every corner, many of which were not known at all, especially because at that time tourism in Portugal was far from what it is today and for this same reason, the locations were not widely publicized. Among many others, this is perhaps one of the best memories we can give to our daughter as well as providing unforgettable family moments (that she will cherish) even though now everything may seem a little boring, said by her on certain occasions :P
So, in the last hours of our visit, we explored the city's alleys without going into too much detail about the other monuments.
One of the things that caught my attention was the Casa do Arco do Bispo.
In this picturesque medieval area of the city, we come across a Romanesque arch reminiscent of the castle's majestic main door. However, its location far from the town's fence rules out the possibility of it being one of its main entrances, which is why this arch has always intrigued historians. There is a possibility or the possibility of this arch being the entrance to the bishop's house is questioned.
If we look closely at the house that crowns the arch, we come across a very old building, the walls reveal several overlaps and at the top, a window testifies to its presence since the mid-13th century.
We also passed by the Contemporary Culture Center, a work designed by the Catalan Architect Josep Lluis Mateo, where culture is promoted.
We also saw the Cine Teatro Avenida, which we later learned had been restored after a violent fire.
We end at the Palace of the Viscounts of Portalegre, which was built here in 1743 and which today belongs to the Municipality.
This is how I end my brief visit to the beautiful city of Castelo Branco.
I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health

This part of the city I don't remember so well! But I've been there so many years ago... Back them the "Contemporary Culture Center" didn't existed. It is a good way of preserving the old, and reinvented the new. Great post!
