Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

After a pleasant walk through the village's quiet streets, where time seems to slow down, we decided to head to two of its most emblematic landmarks: the Vila Nova de Cerveira Castle and the Misericórdia Church. Both are silent witnesses to centuries of history, where we were able to experience true time travel.

Vila Nova de Cerveira Castle, majestically located on top of a hill, seems to watch over the town. Built in the 13th century, it was essential in the defense of the town, especially during periods of instability in the Middle Ages. Although its origins date back to times of fights and battles, today the castle offers a more serene experience, inviting everyone to explore its interior and enjoy the panoramic views (which in the golden hour are priceless).

The uneven floor and weathered stones contribute to this feeling of antiquity, while the towers and thick walls reveal their defensive function. But what really captivated me were the stunning views. From its elevated position, we see the village with its stone houses, the hillside streets and the River Minho, which meanders peacefully below, marking the natural border between Portugal and Spain.

After exploring the castle, the next stop was the Misericórdia Church, a religious building that, despite being more discreet in comparison to the castle, does not lose its historical importance. Located in the center of the village, the Misericórdia Church dates back to the 16th century and reflects the beauty of Manueline architecture. We chose not to take photos because the mass was taking place.

The Misericórdia Church is also a place of history and devotion. Inside the church, it is possible to observe several elements that speak of the village's connection with Catholic religion and tradition. Also noteworthy are the various images of saints and the altarpieces that adorn the altar, pieces that are a testimony to the religious art of the time.

The castle offers a breathtaking view, while the church, with its silence and serene beauty, transports us to a world of devotion and art. Between the green of the mountains that surround the village and the tranquility of the River Minho, Vila Nova de Cerveira is a place where history and the present intersect in a natural way.

I like how you described the contrast between the two landmarks, the Vila Nova de Cerveira Castle and the Misericordia Church. The castle, with its majestic walls and panoramic view, really conveys a sense of strength and protection, while the church seems like the perfect place for silence and reflection. I especially appreciate your mention of your decision not to take photos during the mass – it shows your respect for the sacredness of the moment🙏🏻
