Cruella Movie Review
Today, I'm talking about the highly anticipated 17th Disney live-action film called Cruella. Cruella is the third live-action 101 dalmatians film in this 101 dalmatians franchise. We all know of Disney live-action movies, they range from good to mediocre to just very poor. I was wondering, how is this movie gonna turn out? I gotta say, I am shocked in the best way possible because this was a good time at the cinema. I think this is one of the best Disney live-action movies.
Let's get into the positives. Cruella is one of the best Disney live-action movies. We're gonna get right into the acting with Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. They carry this movie every scene with them together is just amazing. They truly do become these characters when we see the dynamic chemistry between them. It is just amazing. However, I love how Emma Stone is able to turn into the Cruella de Vil that we know and we see that progression.
I also love the production design in this movie being able to capture the 1960s era of the UK. I thought it all looks so great. I love how all the makeup and costume designs were top-notch, especially the costume design that should be nominated at the academy awards for best costume design. It looked so elegant. It looked like, I couldn't even remotely look at him because of how rich and real, and detailed they all looked. The makeup is fantastic as well as you've seen in the posters Cruella de Vil just has everything going together with the mascara or all these things. I don't know what I'm talking about but it just looked good.
The one thing that everyone is going to love about this movie is the incredible soundtrack. They were able to take all the 1960s classics from the UK and just explode them into this movie. I thought it was awesome this became very much unexpected because it's a Disney movie. But when the soundtrack was blazing through this movie it felt like it wasn't a Disney movie anymore and that's the biggest accomplishment that I can give this movie. I was sitting there in my seat like oh yeah!! It was a great montages with the music before going into this movie, I had no idea how they're gonna make a Cruella de Vil origin story because she's a villain and probably my favorite villain of the Disney animated classics.
Let's get right into the negatives. I do have a handful just like all these Disney live-action ones do. We're gonna start with the horrendous CGI. I don't want animal cruelty in my films. I love dogs but come on now, if you're gonna CGI every animal in this movie you gotta put all the money into it. The CGI is so distracting especially when the dogs are in the whole movie because the dalmatians themselves look really bad and it almost doesn't convince me at any point in the movie. It just makes this 200-million-dollar movie look like absolute dog crap.
My second negative with this movie is - Cinematography. I almost wish this movie was just done better. It just looks so bland. It just looks like the typical Disney live-action look that we all get. I know people probably won't care but it's just so boring. It feels so studio made of how the movie looks. As much as I do enjoy the story and a lot of the writing in this movie, the screenplay does get a lot of criticism and mainly with how this movie is paced. I know a lot of people are probably gonna be bored during many moments of this movie because there are sections of this movie that just repeat themselves over and over again without giving us any new information on the characters in the story and what is actually happening.
I would say about the first 30 minutes of this movie are really hard to get into because it feels like the typical standard Disney stuff that is so boring. It's just so typical of what we've seen in these movies. I think if we almost cut that out and we opened right with Emma Stone playing an older Cruella. At the end of the second act, you feel like this movie is gonna end and it was really shocking but then the movie just keeps going and parts of it are really good. I liked but then it drags on and just tumbles its way to the end.
The last negative is that I thought the directing was so boring bland and just uninteresting. There are sections of this movie in the second act and a little bit in the third act that is really good and stylish. It's fun there's a lot of visual creativity with it but it almost seems like that in the first act of this movie and other sections here and there that it's just so bland it feels like it was studio-made like you didn't feel like it was made by this director.
Overall, Cruella is the biggest surprise of the entire year that was really entertaining and enjoyable with terrific performances and actually being super dark with Disney going all the way with this movie. I think you should go see this movie in theaters or pay for it on Disney plus because this movie was a lot better than it needed to be. I would definitely have it in my collection. I am giving Cruella a 7.5 out of 10.

I wasn't really surprised by this movie either and the truth is that I didn't expect to find something great since I saw the trailer, but more of the same, however I think I must praise Emma Stone's performance because I think she did a great job as Cruella, I liked her movements and body expression, very accurate to the Cruella of the animated version.
