Peaceful Memories in Ankara: Sunsets, Friendships, and Reflections (eng-tr)

Today I would like to tell you about my trip to Ankara. Maybe some of you know about it, but I would like to mention it anyway. Ankara is the capital of Turkey. I lived in this city for about 5 years. Then I moved to Istanbul to live with my family. During my stay in Ankara, I lived in my grandfather's house. We are a very crowded family. All relatives visit each other. The bond between our relatives is very strong. In this context, I came to visit my grandfather. He is very old and gets sick often. This time his illness lasted a little longer. Many people from Van and Istanbul came to visit him. You can see me and my grandfather in the first photo😊

Bugün sizlere Ankara gezimden bahsetmek istiyorum. Bilenleriniz vardır belki ama ben yine de bahsetmek istiyorum. Ankara, Türkiye’nin başkenti. Ben de bu şehirde yaklaşık 5 yıl yaşadım. Daha sonra İstanbul’a ailemin yanına taşındım. Ankara’da kaldığım süre boyunca büyük babamın evinde yaşadım. Çok kalabalık bir aileyiz. Bütün akrabalar birbirlerini ziyaret ederler. Akrabalarımız arasındaki bağ çok sağlamdır. Ben de bu bağlamda dedemi ziyarete geldim. Çok yaşlı olduğu için sık sık hastalanıyor artık. Bu sefer ki hastalığı biraz uzun sürdü. Van’dan ve İstanbul’dan birçok kişi ziyarete geldi. İlk fotoğrafta ben ve dedemi görebilirsiniz😊

Do you like the view in the second photo? I love the sunset. I took this photo the first day I came to Ankara. I felt a strange peace while watching the sunset at the Kocatepe Mosque. Like every sunset, it seemed to remind me of something... As I was leaving a whole day behind, it was as if everything stopped, only the unique colors of the sky remained. The slow retreat of the sun towards the horizon made me feel the calmness that comes at the end of all the hustle and bustle. Sometimes the end of a day signals new beginnings, and this is exactly how it felt... It was a pleasure to capture this moment in the peaceful atmosphere of Kocatepe in the middle of Ankara. It was a pleasure to end the day this way.

İkinci fotoğrafta yer alan manzarayı sevdiniz mi? Ben güneşin batışını çok seviyorum. Ankara'ya ilk geldiğim gün bu fotoğrafı çektim. Kocatepe Camii’nde güneşin batışını izlerken içimi garip bir huzur kapladı. Her gün batımı gibi yine bana bir şeyleri hatırlatıyordu sanki... Koca bir günü geride bırakırken, sanki her şey durdu, sadece gökyüzünün o eşsiz renkleri kaldı. Güneşin ufka doğru ağır ağır çekilişi, tüm koşuşturmaların sonunda gelen o sakinliği hissettirdi bana. Bazen bir günün sonu, yeni başlangıçlara da işaret ediyor ya, işte tam da öyle bir his... Ankara’nın ortasında, Kocatepe’nin huzur dolu atmosferinde bu anı yakalamak ayrı bir keyifti. Günü bu şekilde sonlandırmak keyifliydi.

This is a bookstore. Almost all people in Ankara know Dost Bookstore because it is a meeting point. The name means friendship. If you are very close friends with someone here, that person becomes your friend. The first day I came to Ankara, I came here and thought about the old days. I lived in this city for 5 years. I used to visit this bookstore a lot back then. Today, I chose this place to meet my friend.

Burası bir kitapçı. Dost Kitapevini neredeyse tüm Ankaralılar bilir çünkü burası bir buluşma noktasıdır aslında. İsminin anlamı da arkadaşlık demek. Bizim burada biriyle çok yakın arkadaşsan o kişi senin dostun olur. Ankara'ya geldiğim ilk gün buraya geldim ve eski günleri düşündüm. Ben bu şehirde 5 yıl yaşadım. O zamanlar da bu kitapçıya çok uğrardım. Bugün de arkadaşımla buluşmak için burayı seçtik.

And the best part of Ankara meetings:) I love kebab and liver. You know kebab is one of the most famous dishes in Turkey. I met Mehmet, one of my closest friends, at a kebab shop. Mehmet is my old colleague and we used to go to kebab shops all the time when we were working together. We had this meeting at a kebab shop to reminisce about those days. What you see in the photo are the appetizers served before the kebabs. Even without kebabs, we could have filled our bellies with these appetizers :)

Ve Ankara buluşmalarının en güzel yanı:) Kebap ve ciğeri çok seviyorum. Bilirsiniz kebap Türkiye'nin en meşhur yemeklerinden biridir. En yakın arkadaşlarımdan biri olan Mehmet'le kebapçıda buluştuk. Mehmet benim eski iş arkadaşım. Birlikte çalışırken de sürekli kebapçılara giderdik. O günleri yad etmek için bu buluşmayı da kebapçıda yaptık. Fotoğrafta gördüğünüz kebaplardan önce servis edilen mezeler. Kebap olmasa bile bu mezelerle karnımızı doyurabilirdik :)

I told you that I love the sunset. I took this photo at my grandparents' house. When I was in my hometown, I watched and shot the sunset the most. These moments are very precious to me. At such moments I thank the Creator every moment for not depriving me of such beauty. Do you like sunrise or sunset?

Güneşin batışını sevdiğimi söylemiştim. Bu fotoğrafı da dedemlerde çektim. Memleketimdeyken de en çok güneşin batışını seyrettim ve çektim. Bu anlar benim için çok kıymetli. Böyle anlarda yaratıcıya her an teşekkür ediyorum. Bu tarz güzelliklerden beni mahrum bırakmadığı için. Siz güneşin doğuşunu mu batışını mı seviyorsunuz?

The rain clouds were literally pouring down, as if they were floating down from the sky to the ground. Not a drop of rain fell on my side, but the view across was spectacular. It was as if the clouds were coming down and dropping all the rain on that side. It was a joy to watch, it lasted only 10 minutes, but at that moment it was as if time stopped. It's amazing how nature can put on such a show in such a short time!

Yağmur bulutları resmen aşağı akıyordu, sanki gökyüzünden yere doğru süzülüyor gibiydi. Benim olduğum tarafta bir damla bile yağmadı ama karşıdaki manzara muhteşemdi. Bulutlar adeta aşağıya inmiş, o tarafa tüm yağmuru bırakıyordu. İzlemek çok keyifliydi, sadece 10 dakika sürdü ama o an sanki zaman durdu. Bu kadar kısa sürede doğanın böyle bir şov yapması inanılmaz!

I have always been fascinated by mosques, especially those that mesmerize you with their architecture. This mosque is one of them! It is located in Bilkent and you can see how impressive it is from the outside. The elegance of the minarets and the way they reach to the sky add a different beauty. Once inside, that beauty continues and you find peace in every corner. Both modern and traditional textures together, it is a really special place.

Camilere hep hayran kalmışımdır, özellikle de mimarisiyle insanı büyüleyenlere. Bu cami de tam onlardan biri! Bilkent’te yer alıyor ve dışarıdan bakınca ne kadar etkileyici olduğunu görebiliyorsun. Minarelerin zarafeti ve gökyüzüne uzanışı ayrı bir güzellik katıyor. İçine girdiğinde ise o güzellik devam ediyor, her köşesinde ayrı bir huzur buluyorsun. Hem modern hem de geleneksel dokular bir arada, gerçekten özel bir yer.
