The price of laziness

I seemed to be a unique child when I was small, and everyone in the community admired me due to my gentility and calm nature. I hardly talk when I am around people, but when I am in the midst of friends, I talk a lot.

Likewise, I love to go indoors due to my introverted personality.

But something appears to be bad about my personality as a child, which is my laziness to do things on time.

Generally, my mother had to shout at me before I would do the task she gave me to do as a child. Our neighbor has remarked on my character. Usually, I start yawning at me if I don't do my housework on time.

One day, I decided to dare my mom to know what she would do to me.

My mother is a petty trader, while my father is a civil officer who comes home on weekends. She sells nylon.

She asked me to make a package of nylon for her customer before she came back from where she went too. Furthermore, she gave me a timely warning and also begged me to do it for her on time before evening.

When she left, I started the work she gave me. But all of a sudden, I heard the voice of my friend outside playing my favorite game. I decided to check what they were doing. It was my favorite game, so I decided to join them to play the game. One of our neighbors called on me and said, “Are you through with the work your mom asked you to do?" I said “I was almost done, that I was feeling bored, and that I wanted to play some games with my friend before going back inside."

I played well enough to satisfy myself, then I rushed inside to finish the task given to me by my mom. Not quite long ago, my mom came back. She was not happy to see me or to have finished the task she gave me to do.

She then said, “I know you won't do it, and you love me to see what I will do to you. No problem."

She went out; I didn't know what she would bring back. When she came back, she came back with a cane, and then she waited for me to finish the task. I was already scared to face the consequences of not being through with the task my mom gave me to do for her after she gave me to do it for her on time.

She delivered it to her customer late that evening. After our supper that night, she had me go and shower before going to bed. I went to the bathroom to do that, hoping that my mom had forgiven me, not knowing she had a plan for me. As I got to my room to wear my nightgown for bed, my mom came into my room with my older sister. She asked them to hold me by my hand and leg. Then she poured more water on my body and started spanking me as if I were stealing. It was an unforgettable night for me. I screamed for help. None of our neighbors came to our rescue. She gave me twenty strokes of cane on my wet body.

Oh!! It was a unforgettable day for me, due to my laziness.

I was unable to sleep very well that night; I felt pains all over my body. When I got to school the following day, the marks were all over my body. My friends and my teacher asked me. “What's wrong with me? Why are there marks all over my body?" I told them Mom beat me without me telling them what I did to her because I knew I was the one at fault.

The spanking led me to have a hot body temperature, and I was unable to concentrate in class.

When my class teacher called my mom and told her that I was running low, she notified her that I should be coming home.

Getting home, she gave me a drug instead of me to rest. She said your punishment continues: go to the kitchen, arrange the place very well, and wash the dirty dishes there too. I felt so bad. I managed to go to the kitchen to do the task.

After I finished it, she said, Go and sleep.

Well, I know you will all feel that my mother acted in a wicked way by spanking me to that extent without being merciful. She didn't.

I was the one who disobeyed her, and that day was not the only day I did that lazy act. I sometimes feel that she will not beat me because she loves me a lot.

But since that day, I will ensure I finish the task she gave me on time so that day will not repeat itself.
