Megalo Box Review [ENG/SPA]

ENG
It was extremely difficult leaving where I was to come back to the real world and face reality. I wanted to stay there for a very very long time. For months, weeks and days. At some point,it felt like the hours in a day weren't enough anymore. I had exhausted the entire 24 hours without even realizing it. Each and every day. I had to force myself to move. Will my subconscious to snap out of the fiction world. Not only did that sadden me,it made me want to rush everything and go back there. Like a desperate longing at the back of my head, prodding me to move swiftly,go faster and act quicker. I went from books to watching anime to sleeping; these excludes house chores, sleeping and doing other random things. I haven't gone back to school yet and I know when I go back there,I won't have the willpower or hours of the day to just be of less use to the world. I just had to watch this anime cause not only did I like the cover, something whispered to me that this might be the last anime I'd see before going back to school. I let out a ragged sigh.

I want to speak of/ about Megalo box. I didn't like the idea of it having to do with the sport boxing. Not like it was repulsive but the main sport leaves me quite uncomfortable whenever I watch it. This anime that takes you through the world of boxing, but with a futuristic twist. The story revolves around a guy named Junk Dog,JD for short, who fights in underground matches to make some money. In a world, where most fighters make use of gears to enhance their abilities,JD strives to make a name for himself. To all of us out there, trying to grow, fighting for a dream; You will.

The plot kicks off when JD decides that he wants to join the prestigious Megalonia tournament, which is the Super Bowl of boxing in this world. But he is of no gear and he has to rely on his raw talent and grit to compete against the best. This sets the stage for a classic underdog story, and you can’t help but root for him. The first few episodes do a great job of establishing JD’s character and the harsh realities of his life. He’s not just a fighter; he’s a someone trying to escape his past and find his place in a world that seems stacked against him.

As the series goes on, we meet some really interesting characters. There’s Nanbu, JD’s coach, who has a troubled past himself. He believes in JD and pushes him to be better, even when things get tough. Then there’s Yuri, the reigning champion of Megalonia, who is a total beast in the ring. Their rivalry is intense, and it really drives the plot forward. You can see how JD’s determination to prove himself fuels his desire to go up against Yuri, and it makes for some epic fight scenes.

One of the significant parts of Megalo Box is how it explores themes of identity and perseverance. JD struggles with who he is and what he wants to become. He wants to be seen as a true fighter, not just someone who hides behind the safety of his gear. His struggle is relatable, and it makes you think about your own ambitions and what it takes to achieve them. The show doesn’t bother to hide the physical and emotional toll that boxing takes on its characters. There are moments where you really feel the pain and sacrifice that JD goes through, and it makes his journey all the more impactful.

The animation style is also worth mentioning. It has this,in a way, gritty, hand-drawn look that gives it a unique vibe. The fights are intense making you feel like you’re right there in the ring with JD. The use of music is fantastic too; it really sets the mood during the fights and emotional moments. It's quite obvious a lot of thought went into the overall aesthetic of the show.

To sum it all up;Megalo Box is a really good anime that combines a gripping plot with deep themes of identity and perseverance. It’s a story that resonates with anyone who has ever had to fight for their dreams.

Too much box is making my head hurt already.

Thanks for reading.

At some point I was tempted to watch this anime since when I saw the trailer I had the impression that I would see very well animated fights, but what stopped me is that I'm not a boxing fan, so I preferred to watch something else.

Get those spirits up, there's always time for some anime.... Cheers!

Yes,indeed. There's always time for some anime, stolen time if that makes any sense 😭😂. Thankyou so much for your support. I didn't like the aspect of the boxing stuff also. It weirded me out, but I wanted something to slam me out of the daze I was living in and I got it, unfortunately;)

It was extremely difficult leaving where I was to come back to the real world and face reality.

Haha totally relate with you! It's really hard to face the real world, especially if there's a lot of stuff that needs to be done...

As for this futuristic boxing anime... Although I like full contact events in sports, I'm not really fond of boxing. It isn't just my cup of tea, but their fights are sure interesting. It's an intriguing anime to watch, however it doesn't pique my interest yet. Anyway, cheer up—school maybe dragging for now, but someday we will reap the fruits of the thousand sighs we've heaved! (sighs...hopefully.) Btw, thanks for sharing @omokhafue.

You get me! I do not want to go back there,to this sad reality. Was texting one of my friends last week and he told me how he's resumed and has been in school for two weeks and is technically already losing his mind. Honestly, being introverted isn't nice. It's only nice when you're already super rich and have everything you need already. Sigh, the amount of sighs I've made only because I thought of school should be more than a hundred.😂
I did like this anime because it was like being slapped to reality everytime someone got punched!😂

Haha true! It sucks to be a broke student... Anyway, let's all just hope that one day the state of our lives will improve once we finish our studies (yay!) and find a job.

Lol, I thought it would be an escape from reality...it turns out its a wake-up punch to reality!

@ridgette no no no,my escape from reality at this point was this particular book series I was reading. I'm almost done and at the same time I'm sad about the fact of ending the series. Life is truly saddening. Watching this anime made me realize I had a life to get back to. I wish life has a pause button of a sort, I'd be genuinely grateful because please, let me breathe a little?

Ahhh a book then...I see, I see—I already finished the book I purchased this month, and yeah, it sure was a decent diversion (not sure it's a wholesome one tho haha). A little pause and rest sure won't hurt, but surely there's a lot of reasons to continue moving.

I already finished reading the unrevised version on Wattpad years ago, but just this month I purchased the physical copy version because I'm curious on how it turned out. By the way, it's like a Bridgerton-like series with conspiracies and a hint of syndicated crime... My hype, I guess, died down because I find the older version more interesting (?).

I like how it highlights the importance of personal struggle and how we can all identify with fighting for our dreams. Also, the animation style and use of music adds a special touch to the experience. 🙌

I don't know why this series is so popular. I.e. I know that this is a refreshed version (and a shortened one in a slightly different setting) of Ashita no Joe, a cult title that was once as popular as DB later. I also know that the Japanese have a lot of sentiment towards him, but still. MegaloBox is just a good series for me, 7/10 at best. The plot is simple, there are no twists. The characters are also not very complex, they have rather few character traits. The animation and music are quite cool, but in my opinion the fights are not impressive enough, and the gears actually asked for it.

I won't try to change your mind cause you are right. There's really nothing special about this series. But it's not a bad one either, it's just there.
