A Bookish Reunion: Diary of a wimpy kid

It was sometime around September. I wanted to purchase some novels for my 11 and 7 years old sisters. I was going through the books we had at home and stumbled on these set of books. They belonged to me when I was little. I was so shocked and nostalgic, seeing them. It had been so long. I remember trading these books with my other classmates in school for some dork diaries or Marykate and Ashley diaries. Growing up,I had a lot of access to technology so I can't really say I was deprived and had to resort a lot of my time to books. It was just a thing I really enjoyed. It was rotated around playing games on I and my sister's tablet, watching tv,drawing, playing with my sisters or reading novels. I have always been a book girl, always!

What surprised me the most was the fact that they still looked so neat. I mean some pages were crumbling and the back of one was torn out but they were readable and I spent the rest of the day reading them. I wanted more and decided to go in search of the pdf of the others in the series. I couldn't afford to buy everything at once so the pdf would do,for now.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a funny and relatable series written by Jeff Kinney. It revolves around the life of a middle schooler, Greg Heffley. The series began with its first book,The diary of a wimpy kid in 2007. The writings in the book is presented in a diary format, with hand written notes and some quirky illustrations that describes Greg's thoughts and experiences. It is a unique book that aimed at being easy to read or relatable to kids and teenagers as you get to see and experience Greg's daily struggles. It goes from navigating friendships to relationships and family dynamics to dealing with the trials of school life which can kick one into a depressive phase in life.

One of the aspects of this book that made a lot of teenagers and kids love it is its relatability. It was a very relatable book! Down to his relationship with his elder brother and younger brother, his mum and dad and his best friend and then we had school. Many readers see themselves in Greg's shoes. I could remember being only 11 and deciding to start a diary series too, with the yearly journals my aunt buys for me for my birthday, just cause I wanted to recreate Gregory in a way. We get to see Greg's insecurities, his desire for popularity and his often misguided attempt to improve his sad social life.

I genuinely loved this series. I missed it a lot too. I really wish they'd create more books like these for kids of this year and generation. I don't know if there's any but I haven't heard of any book series like these again apart from dork diaries, Marykate and Ashley, Archie comics. Oh my God, speaking of Archie comics,my friend in highschool took the only copy I have and never returned it! Favour wherever you are, I'll find you!😔

If you're looking for something a little bit under the weather and just outright funny and age appropriate, this is it and the one for you. I can't express how much I missed arguing about this book with the only friends I had in school back then. I think that was only part of school I actually liked. It just went downhill from there.

Thanks for reading;)
