☕ Guayoyo or American? ☕ [Eng/Esp]

....English Version....

Guayoyo or American? Black coffee is a worldwide tradition. Who doesn't like to enjoy a black coffee? The truth is that there are many versions of this rich beverage; one of them is the famous American coffee or the traditional one of us Venezuelans, the popular Guayoyo; everyone may think that when asking for a Guayoyo it is synonymous to enjoy a watery coffee or with little concentration of coffee. Then, many years ago in the town where my mother is from and we are talking about Caripe, Monagas State, Venezuela; a place where the Guayoyo is prepared a lot, my grandmother told us that it can be strong or mild, but it has a particular characteristic; and that is that this coffee is obtained through the traditional cloth strainer or simply strained with a sock.

And she herself told us, that when someone goes to a restaurant or to any business, she doubted that when asking for a Guayoyo, these establishments have this type of strainer; because what I actually think that it is so, since all these businesses have machines for the preparation of the different coffees, so from my point of view when we ask for a Guayoyo, the most probable thing is that they bring us an American coffee, so simple with that. And I am totally sure that when I ask for a Guayoyo, the person who serves us thinks that I am asking for a very soft black coffee and this is what happened when I asked for my Guayoyo and I will tell you why.

Early in the morning I had already had a Guayoyo, because at home I do have the cloth strainer and nothing better than doing it the traditional way; however, when I left home I was provoked to have another cup of coffee and on the way I was very close to a supermarket that looks like a shopping mall, we are talking about the Hato Grill, a place that has a very nice and pleasant cafeteria. Being there, they bring me the menu and nowhere does it say Guayoyo; however, that is what I asked the person who attended me.

I said, brother I want a Guayoyo; well, my table was very close to the counter where they request the coffees and I heard loud and clear; a light Americano for table 3; now, being this drink very traditional in our country; either he did not know what I had requested or they simply make all the coffees in their machines and simply play with the concentration of coffee and water to try to please the customers. Well, the truth is that I waited for my coffee and in a few minutes I had it on the table.

So it was the Americano as I had heard, but it really did not have much concentration of coffee; however, the coffee was delicious, a black coffee to enjoy it little by little, but first I had to sweeten it a little and I did it with a single sachet of sugar, because you know that I like it a little strong and it was not strong at all. But nothing better than a black coffee to recharge the batteries, although it was not what was requested.

Truly, at least the coffee was hot or better said very hot and it burned my lips, hehehehehe, but that did not stop me because I continued savoring the delicious coffee and enjoyed them as I always do when consuming this type of beverage; so my friends I did not leave anything of this coffee and you can leave your opinions about the Guayoyoyo or the American, greetings and see you soon.

....Versión En Español....

¿Guayoyo o Americano?.

Give me a guayoyito, hahahaha that's the best line. Some think it's a mild coffee, others somewhere in between. Very relative to where you take it.

Omar, in my house when I was a child, it was also strained in a cloth strainer, even today in the countryside it is done this way. Nice post

Here in the southern area of Anzoátegui, where I live, our guayoyo is common, and I do not think there is a household that does not have its cloth strainer that is available in all the grocery stores and markets of the city... but it happened to me many times when traveling by road, that from Clarines onwards, I would ask for a coffee at a bus stop, and it seemed to me that I was drinking ink, hahaha. Since that day, I travel with my thermos of coffee and my guayoyo made by me, and just in case, I also carry a strainer in my luggage.

Hehehe, good one, taking all your gear with you when you travel. Nothing like a traditional homemade Guayoyoyo. That's right, those strainers can be found in many supermarkets, the strainer is special. Greetings and thanks
