My mountain hikes no. 15 – Lake Parón

Sometimes you come across mountains that are so high and so inaccessible that conventional trekking there is almost impossible. One of such mountains is the highest Peruvian mountain chain, Cordillera Blanca. Traveling through these mountains is actually only possible in one of two ways. The first are organized bus trips, during which a group of tourists travel by bus to the mountains to a specific point, where they can take a short walk to one or two specific viewpoints. The second method is also multi-day trips to the mountains organized by tourism offices, involving a loop of several dozen kilometers. Then the office usually provides a donkey that carries the tourist's luggage and provisions, but you don't have to be very insightful to guess how much such a trip may cost. That's why we didn't get into much trouble during this trip to the mountains. Yes, we climbed to the viewpoint, but it was no more than a kilometer and about 100 meters of climbing. Our goal was Laguna Paron, which is sandwiched between several peaks, all of which are plus or minus six thousand meters high. The water table is located at an altitude of 4,155 m above sea level. The lake is famous for two things. The first thing is its turquoise color, which cannot be compared to anything else, and the second thing is one of the peaks located on the opposite side of the lake. The view from the lake to the 5,885 m Pirámide mountain became famous because one of the largest film studios, Paramount Pictures Studios, chose this peak as its logo. So the next time you watch films such as Titanic, Mission: Impossible, Shrek, Forrest Gump, Indiana Jones, The Godfather, take a closer look at what the mountain with the stars flying over it looks like.
