Efficiency Hacks: How Planning and Working Smart Saves Me Time
If there could be a shortcut to everything in this life with no adverse results, there may not be many of us still taking the long route to achieve things. Unfortunately, that is not the reality we live in. There are no two ways to do certain things. If, however, one can achieve their goal in a more efficient and productive way, it sure would reduce stress for one. I will be sharing a few things I do to make things easier for myself.

Planning had not always been a part of my life, but as I grow older, I realize more and more how inefficient and stressed I become when I do not take the time to give myself a clear direction for how I would like to proceed. I just jump in and expect to figure things out on the fly, and at the end of the day, even if I achieve what it is I aimed for, I then realize that other aspects may have been lacking all the while.
An example that is relatable would be when I am writing posts. There are certain times that I spend so much time on single articles that I end up feeling too exhausted to get on to other things, which would have disrupted my schedule. I am unlearning bad habits that I employ whenever I need to write.
I write film reviews as often as I can, which would be once or twice every week, owing to the fact that I have to take time to watch (more than once most times). However, it can be a challenge to write them sometimes, especially when I don't plan accordingly. I then devised the most obvious plan to efficiently write without putting too much pressure on myself:
- I created a general template for myself to follow, with each segment focusing on specific areas I would normally pay attention to in the film. This would enable me give elaborate discussions on categories on the storyline, cinematography, and acting.

I make sure to take notes when I am watching the film. These could be scribbles of quick thoughts while watching. And then, at the end of the film, I take a few minutes to put down some more notes—some times, voice notes.
I then take the time to research a few things about the film so as to get a wider scope of it.
Then I take a few minutes to organize my notes into their designated areas in the template, and then I begin to make a draft.
I do all these at different times so as not to burn myself out by going all out straight. With these few implementations, rather than just jumping on my keyboard to pour what I may have upstairs, in the end, I would have spent way less time thinking about and writing the post, simply because I followed this plan. It's something I have generally applied to writing on anything.

Working Smart
As an engineering student, there is always a lot to study, and when it comes to preparing for exams, it can be challenging to keep everything nailed down.
It's great to work hard, and it always pays, but I learned to work smart. It is also working hard, but doing so in more efficient and effective ways.

Before the semester begins, I will reach out to those who took it the previous year, collect materials, and ask questions. I would then keep those things in mind, and as the courses progressed during the semester, I would correlate what I had heard with what I saw, figure out the patterns, and keep them noted. These patterns would be the behavior of the lecturer, how they set questions, and the kind of responses they expect to the questions.
As I then study through the semester, rather than just blindly reading everything and exploring the ends of the universe to prepare myself, I would design a system that works for me. I would even develop probable questions.

I still read as much as I can to gain knowledge, but when it came down to preparing for exams, I would spend way less time and get good results in the end. I followed this pattern throughout, and it worked well.

Different things work for different people, of course. There are only a few things that I employ in certain areas of my life. They may seem obvious, but they do the job for me. I do get to feel less tense and put in less effort to achieve what I need to.
Basically, planning systematically gives me a clear direction and keeps me in check with where I would like to land. Working smart for me includes working hard, but in a manner that ensures that I expend less effort to achieve the same aim efficiently and effectively. They do a great deal to help me save time.

It seems like you've actually figured it all out. I really like the patterns you use while making movie reviews and studying. I haven't read a review from you before; I'd be looking out for one:-P.
And as for the studying pattern, I think I should adopt this method as it seems less stressful and more effective. I'm one to study extensively and widely but on second thought, getting assistance from senior colleagues doesn't sound so bad after all.
This was an amazing post dear olujay. Thanks for sharing ✨.
I am still trying to figure many things about my life, on the contrary. I am not sure if there is such a person that has everything all figured out—I would love to meet them and learn. These are just things that came about from "trying."
Are you a student? I am not sure how I think you have kids and family of your own. What's your approach to saving time, if I may ask?
Thank you for your kind words and thoughtful comment. I appreciate them.
Well, this is correct.
Yes very much. I'm a student.
What if I say that I have none😅.
First of all, I figured out what type of learner I was; I'm an audio-visual learner. With this, I know that if I want to go about reading handouts and scripts and textbooks, I'd have to spend twice the time before assimilating.
So I watch a wide range of videos on the various topic. There are other things I do in a day to maximize my time. Senior colleagues come to play once in a while though.
It's always a pleasure✨.
Learning with videos is something I did a lot back in school, especially in the first two years (out of five). As we got higher, finding relevant videos became a challenge as the courses became more intense.
You found something that works for you. You should stick with it.
I'm Nigerian. Are you?
Okey dokey
Yeah. South south.
Fascinating. I'm from Lagos. Yoruba, actually.
Your username may have given a little hint😃. Olu means God right?
Yes, it does mean God. But my username doesn't imply God-jay. 😄
It's a combo from two of my names.
Lemme guess
Oluwakemi and Jason?
Haha...
Oluwakemi is a feminine name.
It's Oluwafemi Joseph
Ouuuuu..
I was so close 😃..
Oluwafemi, it was great getting to know you. I'm Enwongo btw
Have an amazing Thursday ✨
Honestly, I'm the type of guy who goes with the flow, I do everything on the spot and there's no plan for what to do, but luckily I manage to survive with that kind of method but it's better if I had prepared a plan right?
The pressure I experienced right now in my studies made me realize that I should plan everything to have a smooth transition of things and also once there's something wrong happen I can still go in accord with what is planned.
We might as well be brothers in that case. There are still some parts of my life that I just employ proper planning. Even in the ones that I do plan, I still jettison it sometimes. In the end, it all becomes a tedious experience still.
I totally know how you feel about school. You know yourself better than anybody else. So, you are in the best position possible to fully determine what works for you—and I can sure bet that you can do that.
I wish best wishes with your academics, mate. I appreciate that you took time to stop by and talk with me. Thank you.
Honestly, there is nothing like planning oo. When I spend my whole day without planning, I later find out things I should have done or forget to do at night.
Your planning system is actually nice, gathering necessary information is a very nice strategy. Realistic planning has helped me a lot too.
I find it really hard to write a movie review, even though I watch movie like on a daily basis. I feel like it is hard to summarise a movie in words.
Good job tho. Kudos.
Planning is underrated sometimes, really. I some times jump into a new day without an actual sense of direction, simply because I did not take a few minutes to think.
Putting your thoughts about a film and summing everything together in words can be quite the task, really. Yet, it isn't as difficult we think. The idea is to share your thoughts. Believe me, it is easy to share thoughts and opinions.
When you want to start—whenever—just flow with your thoughts and draft out anything, and then work on finishing touches later. It may not be perfect on your first try, but it is a step forward. My firsrt review was an exhilarating experience for me, even though I threw spoilers everywhere.
Thank you for your amazing comments everytime.
Planning has multiple benefits, it allows us to make the most of our time and not to overlook things.
Very good idea of taking notes and audios with your thoughts or ideas to then build your publication. Excellent, I loved it.
Oh, yes. One can be thorough with proper planning.
Thank you for coming around.

Thank you for sharing your strategies! Truly agree that planning even if it takes us less than 5 minutes to do truly does wonders in our day and how we maximize our productivity.
Indeed, my friend. 5 minutes of planning, no matter how small, can sure save a lot of time in the future.
Thank you for reading.
