GROWING UP: REMINISCING MY CHILDHOOD

Growing up for me was completely fun, I am the second, and middle child of my family, a family of five. And the most interesting thing was I grew up amidst three boys, we were always constantly arguing, bantering and fighting each other.

If I could remember vividly, our parents friends usey to refer to our family as the “boys hostel”, My dad was a really strict disciplinarian, would be writing about that but later, it was His discipline that helped us not stray of in life and kept us focused. I mean what else can be stressful as raising three boys, my mum never failed to report us to our Dad when we offended or did something, and yeah, he was always there to scold, discipline and if needed spare the rod on us.

Vivid memories of how the house used to be, shouting and laughter was the other of the day. My older brother was a very brilliant one, I wasn't really too bright, but I wasn't average though, was slightly above average and my younger brother was more of a calculative type of kid. We all attended the same primary school and, my Dad always wanted to me to follow in the steps of my older brother, sent me to the same secondary school with him, he was older than me with three years, so by the time I was leaving my primary school he was already in Junior secondary school Grade 3. I gained admission into junior secondary school Grade 1, when it was time for me to move to Grade 2, my parents wanted to send my Older brother to a boarding school for his senior year, and again they said I couldn't stay alone, I followed him to the new school. Throughout my childhood I can say I lived in the Shadow's of my older brother.

When we were younger we moved a lot, I could remember when we moved to a new house, we woke up one Saturday morning and decided we wanted to explore our surroundings and go snail hunting, so we set out all three of us, hunting for snails among the bushes, we came to an abandoned fence and my older brother decided to hop on the fence to look in between the blocks, to see if he could find any snails in-between the blocks, I hopped on with him and we began looking, we came to a block and as he was about to deep his hands in-between I saw a shinny silvery stuff poised and waiting to strike, alarmed I screamed at the top of my voice, Shammah, snake, snake snake, And we all took off on our heels running off to our house, our snail hunting and exploration coming to end. He was as sure fortunate, not to have dip his hands inside. We couldn't tell our parents because, we were surely going to get scolded. One of thing, we loved doing also, when we were much more younger was watching movies, and I think at some point we got addicted to it. And had to be banned from watching movie's for some times. I can recollect the first ever movie I saw was the KING-KONG movie, I was really fascinated by the movie I kept the movie carton.

My childhood was really interesting, growing up with my brothers was fun. I can also recollect, when we were growing up, falling for the steps was like a rite of passage for us, back then we played rough a lot and our backyard was really slippery, and we didn't seem to care, we would be playing and the next minute we we were tumbling down the stairs and each of the three of us never cried, we just stood up like nothing happened and that's was it. This was something we all experienced, not once, not thrice, I would say we kinda grew into it. I could also remember the day, I drank kerosene thinking it was water, only for me to finish it, and realize it was kerosene I just drank, my brothers laughed at me, and that day was a day I can never forget I was made to take almost a whole half gallon of palm-oil, and also forced to take some other liquid substances I didn't like. I woke up the next morning and vomited a liquid whitish substance.

There are a lot of experiences I gained from growing up with my brothers, and I think can say growing up with them was the best thing, that has ever really happened to me, our childhood was really fun. I'm missing it badly. Now each one of us has gained admission into the University and we really didn't spend much time around ourselves. I really miss my childhood day's, wishing I could redo and experience it over again.
