Good Girl, Bad blood - A stark contrast to first (Book Review)

You open your reader app and there’s this pretty book cover you’ve been overlooking whenever you open the app. You decide to check it out, so you can know if it’s fit to be your next read or not. You don’t know how it happened but you believed you’ve only been reading for few minutes, you check the time and see that you’ve been reading for the past one hour. Your initial plan to just check out the book forgotten. But because you claim you’re disciplined when it comes to books, you close it and head back to your other opened book.

Then, you’re torn between two cliffhangers. Looking for two different answers. Its not like you’ve learnt your lesson. Another day, you still go ahead and open another book when you haven’t finished the first two. Tripling the emotional distress.

Dear reader, that’s the dilemma I face these days, trying to juggle reading different books at the same time.

I already read the first book in the famous series – A good girl’s guide to murder by Holly Jackson. So, I’m here to share with you my opinion about the second book in the series – Good girl, Bad Blood.

Don’t worry if you missed the first review, I’ll try my best to make sure you aren’t lost. Good Girl, Bad blood is a sequel to the book A Good Girls Guide to Murder. It follows the story of a young girl Pippa Fitz-Amobi. A young girl who under the disguise of a school project uncovered the truth behind the murder of Andie Bell and her boyfriend Sal Singh six years ago. This brings her to the spotlight and she is loved by many and hated by few in her little town called Kilton.

Although she promised never to do anything of the sort in her life again because of everything the investigation cost her, when one of her close friend's brother goes missing, the family meets her to help investigate their missing brother and son since the police already ruled it off as an unimportant case. Deep in her guts, Pip knew something was not right but because she had made a resolution to never get herself involved in anything like this again in her life, she is torn between helping her best friend and the safety of her family. While she agrees to do it, it’s not like anything she’d ever done before.

Pip in this book was portrayed as a nerdy but fun character. And there’s Ravi. The witty and sarcastic Ravi who’s so good at playing word games. In the first book, they were portrayed as friends. Now, here, they are in their dating era, doing their boyfriend and girlfriend things within the confines of the book. Ravi and Pip as a couple was exactly what this book needed. They were such a power couple and they complemented each other so well. I’m actually thankful that their relationship was incorporated into the story. Otherwise, this book would have been such a flop.

I loved the suspense in this book, I loved that Pip didn’t act quite as irrationally in some cases as she did in the first book. Also, dear reader, Pip is beginning to have a violent side to her. There were some actions the former Pip would have just let go which was the logical thing to do but instead, she took matters into her hands. I think I liked this side of her better. It was satisfying.

As much as I’ll hate to admit, there were more things I disliked about this book than I liked. There were so many characters that appeared here that were completely annoying. It’s not like they had anything to do with Pip’s investigation. They could have literally passed for fleeting characters. I call them fleeting cause they appeared just about a total of three times in the book, each not more than a paragraph but they were bent on annoying the hell out of me the reader and Pip as a character. Funnily enough, there were more than three of these characters.

This book, the second in it’s series was nothing like it’s predecessor. I didn’t find it as intriguing as I found the first book. At some point, it felt like this book was written under pressure. It was kind of hard to follow the characters as so many new characters were introduced and It lacked closure. So many loose ends were left here and there, leaving the readers with unanswered questions.

I was disappointed with this particular one. It didn't turn out like I had envisaged but that won't deter me from reading the third and last book in the series. I love reading about Pip and Ravi. And I want to believe that because this book didn't go well doesn't mean the next one would be bad.

Are you reading any book currently? If yes, what’s it about. As for me, I have one book open already so I'll go back to that and maybe start another alongside😂.

Thanks so much for reading. Do have a great day.

The thing about sequels is that it can either be exceptional or fall incredibly off as compared to the first. Hardly ever an in-between.
To be honest, the first book in these series is one that has sat in my e-library for the longest time. I started but I'm unsure as to why I never finished.😄

Anyway, just finished reading A Broken People's Playlist. Onto another now. But I'm not sure which.

Me too. I had it opened sometime around April or so my reading app told me. But now, I'm working towards completing those books I stopped reading halfway. That was how I read the first book. I liked it though.

I have A broken people's playlist in my e-library but it's among the numerous books I haven't read. I'll read it soon. The title is too catchy for me to not read. I'm reading Adanna. And since you're in your African books era, I'm not sure I'm the right person to recommend books for you. I haven't read much

I have come across this sequel for a while but I keep putting it off and most especially now because I want to try different themes away from the normal Hollywood style. If I ever find my way back, I’ll definitely pick this up. Pip seems like my type of girl

Ohh you've read the first? The good person in me would have advised you to stay away from this one and jump to the third book (I've not read it though) but there's no way you'll understand.
And if you like strong female characters in books, then Pip is definitely your type of girl

Ohhh! Is it a nice book?
It's sad that the prices of hard copies of my favourite books are very costly over here so I'm stuck with ebooks for now. Cant relate😂
