Trying Out FungiFriday for the First Time
Happy Fungi Friday!!!
My son Ben and I were out taking some pics of this old corral. The age is quickly apparent in the weathered wood. Too bad the day was rather chilly.
Upon further inspection of the real wood, one could just barely see these little buggers. I am not sure what they are, but thought they were pretty cool.
I hope they are some sort of fungi. I believe they must be, but I could certainly be wrong lol. Well I am proud to say this is my first contribution to FungiFriday by @ewkaw!
Now the last shots, I took these last year at the same spot with my macro lens:
Whatever they are, I thought they were nifty!

This mushroom is very cool once you show.
technically it's at least part fungus...
what you have there is "lichen", a very specific kind of life form where a fungus and some algae form a symbiotic relationship. The fungus mainly provides thestructure and the algea makes the nutrition through photosynthesis... that's why you'll always find lichen on surfaces that get exposure to light.
Very cool. Thanks so much for the info!
Soldier Lichen! 😍
They are pretty damn cool. Saw them with the red heads like this only once :)
And welcome to the community :D
Thanks much for a warm welcome. I am keeping an eye out for more. Thanks for hosting it, I know it is a bit of extra work! 🙂
a bit ;)
:D
Your first crack at it and it is a pretty cool one! I have so little fungi around here! I hope you get some where you are going! If you are unlucky, you will get what I get... mostly zero!
Nicely done! Happy Fungi Friday! A day late, but, still!
I would think where it is wet or moist like beside a stream or creek perhaps. I am going to do more hiking and look out for some more varieties.
VA is rather dry due to the slope, but that keeps the mosquitoes away!
I have a few streams, but, no cigar. Virginia gets plenty of rain, but, is not very moist. I guess some of the forests might have them...I hike plenty, but, most is an incline, which might be the problem.
Thanks for the ideas.
