Riding the Storm Out
I have to admit while living in Michigan I was peacefully ignorant of just how many hurricanes and tropical storms there really were taking place. I was just snug as a bug in a rug in my little cocoon far away from it all. Why hurricanes were just something that happened in the Caribbean or in Florida, while tropical storms perhaps only threatened Outer Banks or some such. Now having lived in Virginia for over a year and having lived through two hurricanes, I now realize that hurricanes are rather large and when they pass through they can affect a good part of the country.
I would be a rich man if I had a dollar for every time the song was played on the jukebox in the gym where we ate our lunch throughout Junior High School.
As far as I know right now I personally sustained no damage from Hurricane Helene. I plan to go tomorrow and check out my cargo trailer that I have stored at an outdoor storage lot. I also plan to ride over to the lake lot and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that none of the remaining trees ended up on the boat house or one of the neighbors houses like it did last time there was a big storm…
At this time the most grievous damage I have seen locally has been to my neighbor's vinyl fence.
They are out of town so I took it upon myself to restore the fence to its former glory. Truth be told it was a 5-minute job so I can't take too much honor for my efforts lol. 😀
So the sun is trying to make an appearance after seemingly having been gone for nearly forever. Of course my heart goes out to those that suffered much more tragically than I, especially those that lost a loved one to the storm.

We were pretty lucky. We had lots of warning that it was coming right through here. Last night though, although their words had not changed, it appeared to me that the trajectory of the storm was changing to swing more towards the far western side of NC and possibly over in to TN and pretty much that seems to be what it did. Of course we had rain during the night and winds, but not the type of winds they predicted and all morning this morning the rain came down in varying degrees as the wind made the trees dance. I kept expecting it to be worse. I also thought even if it didn't get worse, the ground is so wet, I thought some trees might take a tumble. We've had plenty of rain the last couple of weeks, so the ground was still a little mushie already. Haven't really heard of much if any of that. Looks like we dodged the worst part of the bullet by a few miles. I too feel for those how lots homes and cares and most of all loved ones. I wasn't sad though, that it was not worse here.
