Okay I realized that it is not a Sunday but this was a Sublime and Beautiful trip so I thought I would post it to some of my favorite tags anyways.

I really wanted to get this real life and somewhat spooky situation posted before Halloween passed me by.

Not necessarily because I thought it was going to be haunted or spooky. No, rather I chose to stay there because I was taking a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway that happens to board in the town that the asylum was located in, Staunton, VA.

Not that there is anything wrong with wanting to stay in a somewhat spooky location. The OldGuy is just not into all of the woohoo type of stuff. In fact I am certain that over the decades and the thousands of patients that were “treated” there, many barbaric acts such as lobotomies, sterilization, and shock therapy were employed. I certainly have nothing but empathy for those that suffered there and I feel that anything less would certainly be bad juju - Halloween or not.

Yes it is true I spent the night in a lunatic asylum, but it was really nice! Somebody spent an awful lot of money renovating this building up to what I would call first class, top of the line amenities. Yet I think it is cool that they kept some of the things like the original doors and locks and such.

I would recommend staying here if one wants a restful sleep and nice amenities. Of course more info is available at:
