A PERFECT WAY TO GET A WELL SKETCHED PORTRAIT DRAWING WITHOUT USING GRID/SCALING PAPER

As an artist, it's best to train yourself well. Not just for Picture portrait sketches on grided paper but also for life drawing or still life drawing. I remember back then I'm secondary school days when I was given assignments and classworks to do by drawing placed/arranged objects, a method was taught then which was regarded as POINTING ☝️. This is done by pointing out the drawing pencil or pen out to the object or subject to draw, closing one eye and looking straight at the pointed pencil to get the perfect dimension of what is to be drawn and how it should be drawn on the paper. This study was what I got myself used to to getting a different mental technique that can ease and make sketching more easy to do.

In this sketch shown below, I made use of that same mentality to calculate the distance between:

• the eyebrow to the eyes
• the eyes to the nose
• the edges of the moses to match with the eyes
• the shape and size of the lips
  This was so easy to do as I have developed myself into getting the right dimensions while drawing without the use of grid lines...

This form of drawing can also be known as the free hand sketching but having little addition to it depending on the artist .
