Kamala Harris Copying Keir Starmer
Are you familiar with Keir Starmer? A prosecutor-turned-leader to guide his party out of trouble, his story is one that seems to be able to work very well for Kamala Harris. There's real curiosity over whether Harris who has a similar background and is also in need of uniting the divided country, could emulate a Starmer style transformation in the US.
Starmer took over a Labour Party in trouble, the party had lost public trust, just as Democrats have with some American voters today. Drawing on his background as a prosecutor, he showed people that he understood their concerns, especially around crime and the economy and spoke to people who had been neglected. I believe this is just the sort of strong leadership and reliability argument Harris needs to make to convince all the skeptical voters. But I see a big difference in though, Harris has less time than Starmer. Starmer had years to rebuild but Harris had few months to create the same kind of momentum.
There's another problem too. The so called special relationship that exists between the US and UK is a bit strained these days. Trump's accusations of Labour interference in the US election and UK political figures endorsing American candidates add tension and confusion. Harris would have to work through both voter distrust and prove herself.
