Monetize the fun or nah?

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Influencing is one of the online jobs that pays currently and is never going to stop paying because technology continues to evolve and even more social media platforms continue to come into existence, which gives room for more influencers to emerge and still make money from the space. Sometimes I wonder why influencers are jealous of each other when clearly the influencing space is big enough for all; influencing is another way one can monetise fun. Imagine doing something you love and enjoy so much, and while you are having fun, you are making money.

There are a lot of people like us who only waste data and so much time on social media and earn nothing until we find a hive, while at the same time there are people who need to spend just a few minutes and earn a lot of money from doing that. A few months back, an influencer posted how much they charge for gigs and ad placements, and all I can say is, even if not for passion, a lot of people go into the influencer space because of the juicy pay. For a single ad placement, they can earn someone's salary; what more when they get more than just one in a week?

Growing up, I was a social media addict and spent so much time chatting with both people I knew and people I didn't know. I always had my mom come to remind me of the task she must have asked me to attend to hours ago. I had the dream of becoming an influencer because my elder sister told me about it, and back then, with my love for social media, it was easy to work towards it, and I did. I grew my Facebook page to over 1,000 followers, but my zeal for social media died down when my Facebook account got hacked, and today I even find it difficult to engage on social media. Now I have become a complete ghost on the social media platform, to the point I find it difficult to even make a post.

Do I feel that being a social media influencer is something I can do?

No. Currently, with how my zeal for social media has died down, I cannot even aim to become an influencer for a lot of reasons. As an influencer, you need to keep your followers engaged through continuous posting of contents, but currently the last time I posted on my social media account, I cannot even remember, which is not a sign that influencing is not for me. As an influencer, you are not allowed to be boring; otherwise, you will lose your followers, and currently, boring is an understatement for my life on social media.

Can I handle the responsibilities that come with influencing?

Source

A lot of responsibilities come with being an influencer, and sometimes one is even forced to go against their own ethics to fulfill what is expected of them as influencers, which makes it difficult and not something just anyone can do, so no, I cannot handle all the responsibilities that come with being an influencer. Sometimes I see influencers criticize things that are not supposed to be criticized all to keep the traffic going; sometimes it is annoying how they come up with this criticism just to get engagement, and people always fall for it.

Also, how followers rain insults on them for every criticism, and for the fact that they are influencers, they are not allowed to insult back, is something I cannot handle as well because I will definitely want to fight back.

I understand how difficult it's to keep up with the social media lifestyle of an influencer and while I'm attracted to the money, I don't want to be a celebrity and that's why my aimed in the end if I later delve into it will be to create faceless videos.

I agree with what you think about being influencers, it is a task that in my opinion brings more worries and responsibilities than satisfaction. In reality, having to endure the social pressure of constantly being criticized or asked for things seems to me to be something very unpleasant. At some point in my life I was something like an influencer, when I dedicated myself to the spiritual part, and the truth is that was the biggest problem, my life was almost dedicated to the people to whom I gave classes and guided them spiritually, So I decided to walk away and take another path.

To be an influencer you have to have a lot of personality and brio.
