Cooking gone wrong.

(Edited)

Simon had friends who always travel to stay with uncles and aunties during the holidays leaving him all alone in the neighborhood since his parents feel leaving him to go and live with someone else will be a burden to them or more like they are trying to pass their responsibility to someone else and that caused Samuel to worry whenever the holiday period drew near, he starts to think about how he will be the only one left in the neighborhood and how boring it will be until the holiday is over but this time around he decided he must travel and experience living with a relative too.

"Mom the holiday is just around the corner again. I will be the only one who will not travel. Is it that you don't have any relatives I can spend a month with or what, Mom?" Simon asked with a tone.

"I don't like that tone; you better be careful." Mrs David his mom said giving him that stare to remind him not to be disrespectful "I am sorry mom, it is just that I really want to go for holidays too even if it's just once." Simon cut in.

"The economy is bad, and I will not want you to go and add to anybody's problems. People are currently living on a budget and trying to avoid extra mouths to feed." Mrs. David said.

"But uncle Charles is a bachelor and lives alone, I have always wanted to go live with him, please grant me this one request and I promise to be a good boy forever." Simon promised just to get what he wanted.

"Alright, alright. Please, give me time to reach out to him and ask if you can come." Mrs. David said to get Simon off her back.

"Yesss." Simon shouted as his face bloomed with excitement.

Mrs. David was left thinking about how to call her brother and tell him Simon will come to his place to spend some time with him; at least that way they all get to experience peace and a little change in the topic of discussion around the house when she heard Simon talking over the phone. "Yes, my mom has finally agreed to let me spend my holidays in your place." Simon said as she rushed to confirm who he was talking to.

"Who are you talking to?" Mrs. David rushed to ask.

"It's Uncle Charles, Mom; he has agreed to let me stay with him until the holiday is over." Simon whispered

"Give me that phone." Mrs David said as she grabbed the phone "Charlie don't mind this boy. I planned on calling you later, but since he has done it before me, I am sorry about that." Mrs. David added.

"It is no big deal; I will also love to have him around; it has been a while since I last saw him." Uncle Charles said over the phone.

Time flies, and it was time for the holiday, and even before his mom could think about helping him pack his bag, Simon had already handled that, and all he needed was for her to see him off to the bus station since, out of excitement and wanting to reduce stress for his mom, he did all the heavy lifting that concerned him traveling to see his uncle. She saw him off to the bus station, he boarded a bus, and a few hours later, his uncle picked him up, and he was extremely excited, and it was like a dream come true for him.

"Welcome to my humble abode." Uncle Charles said to Simon, his nephew.

"Thank you uncle Charles, I promise to be on my best behaviour while I am here, you will never regret having me around." Simon assured his uncle

"Honestly I don't hope to regret it, just enjoy your stay. There is food in the kitchen; feel at home." Uncle Charles said so.

"I will like to cook for you, so you can have a taste of good food prepared by your lovely nephew too." Simon says as he left for the kitchen.

"Hahahaha," Uncle Charles laughed. "You sound like a chef. I will be upstairs, he added." As he went upstairs to continue working on his laptop.

Simon went on and on about how he can cook and how his parents back home loved his cooking and his uncle should give him a chance to show his cooking prowess and how he would be left wanting more, the uncle who did not trust all his boasting had to give in just to rest from how he was disturbing and decided to just let him cook so everyone will be at peace while hoping that when he does the food will be as good as he had preached about it earlier.

"So can you cook pasta?" Uncle Charles asked

"Yes, Uncle Charles, the first food I ever cooked was pasta, so as for pasta, it will be perfect." Simon responded with excitement and still boasting.

"Are you sure you can cook pasta perfectly?" Uncle Charles asked again.

"You see, that's the problem. You have trust issues, Uncle, but I will clear your doubt by giving you the best pasta you have ever tasted." Simon boasted even more.

"Okay chef, all the ingredients you need to prepare pasta are in the kitchen; surprise me." Uncle Charles said as he sat on the dining, waiting for Simon to deliver his delicacy.

"Pasta coming right up." Simon shouted as he rushed into the kitchen to start cooking.

While waiting for Simon to finish cooking, Uncle Charles was scrolling through social media and laughing out loud, and a few minutes later, Simon popped out of the kitchen with a sad face.

"Uncle the pasta did not turn out well, oo; it tastes too salty, and I added excess water to it." Simon said with a sad face

"Then you will have to eat some humble pie because you boasted about your pasta too much; just look for a way to discard it." Uncle Charles said as he continued laughing and mimicking Simon's face.
