Ways to help the environment while you're out for a walk or hike
Going outdoors for a hike or walk is an excellent way to get some exercise and fresh air, but it can also be a great opportunity to help the environment in small ways. Whether you’re walking around your neighborhood or up a mountain trail, here are some easy tips to help the environment while enjoying your outdoor activity:
Bring reusable containers with you on your hike or walk. Instead of using disposable water bottles, bring along a refillable container such as a metal bottle or thermos so that you can easily stay hydrated without producing waste.
Pick up litter that you see along the way. Taking just a few minutes out of your walk or hike to pick up any trash that you come across helps keep our planet clean and safe for all living creatures.
Stick to designated trails when possible and avoid shortcuts through sensitive areas like wetlands and meadows where plants and wildlife may be disturbed by trampling feet. If there are no established trails, try to stick to existing paths made by animals rather than creating new ones in order to minimize disturbance caused by humans hiking in nature-rich areas!
Respect signs prohibiting camping near rivers, lakes, streams etc., as these fragile ecosystems need protection from human activities that could potentially introduce foreign contaminants into their waters which could harm local flora and fauna populations over time if left unchecked!
Leave no trace behind: Make sure not to leave anything behind on your walk/hike - this includes food items (even biodegradable ones like apple cores) as well as things like cigarette butts which take many years before they break down naturally in nature!
Following these simple steps will help ensure that future generations will be able enjoy our natural world just as we do today!
