Botok Banana Heart

Banana flowers are very popular in various preparations. One of them is botok dish, so what is Botok?, Botok is a traditional food originating from Java. This food was originally made from coconut dregs from which the coconut milk had been removed. However, as time goes by, Botok is processed into various ingredients that are easily available to the Indonesian people. For example, banana blossoms are very easy to find in gardens so they can be used as the main ingredient for making Botok.

Usually in the area where I live we call it pepes, but there is a slight difference in the manufacturing process this time. That is, it is not grilled, whereas when making pepes we usually bake it again after steaming it or cooking it by boiling it with a little water.

Processed banana blossoms are often an alternative when I want to enjoy simple, home-cooked food. The banana blossoms are seasoned with ground spices of my country's choice and then steamed until cooked. The combination of banana blossoms with grated coconut makes this dish even more special. Below I will show you a recipe for an easy way to make this dish.

4 red chilies
4 cayenne peppers
3 cloves of red onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 candlenut
2 cm turmeric
Sunti acid (optional)

Cooking Procedure

You need to know, in every processing of banana blossoms, I usually always boil the banana blossoms first until they are soft and cooked. This aims to ensure that the sap in the banana flower disappears, and the food can be as delicious as you want.

The step by step preparation is as follows:

Step 1

After all the ingredients were prepared, the first step I took was chopping the spices and grinding them.

Step 2

I also added sunti acid, so for those of you who don't have it, you can replace it with tomatoes or tamarind. Then puree with a blender until smooth.
