Traditional snacks always have their own taste in presentation. One of these processed corn snacks is that it has a deliciously sweet taste and is wrapped in a unique package made from the corn husk itself.

Corn Lepet

Lepet corn is a traditional cake that is quite popular in my country. This cake is usually found during the month of Ramadan like this or outside of Ramadan, this cake is often sold in traditional markets. So, when the month of Ramadan arrives like this, various types of cakes must be prepared at home. However, the people of my country have their own way of choosing a menu for breaking the fast. Usually sweet cakes are a mandatory dish that must be on the dining table.

Well, today I have been fasting for a week, every day I am used to preparing a menu for breaking the fast in the form of delicious cakes. There were lots of cakes that had been prepared the previous day. But today, because I wanted a different cake, I prepared corn lepet. Lepet corn itself is a steamed cake made from corn mixed with grated coconut and other ingredients. Now I will invite you all to prepare this simple recipe!

Materials Used

1 ½ pieces of sweet corn
½ shelled sweet corn
4 tablespoons tapioca flour
3 tablespoons wheat flour,
100 grams of grated coconut,
80 grams of granulated sugar
salt to taste

This time I used fresh corn husks to wrap the cake dough. Because this is the characteristic of corn lepet cake, which is wrapped in the skin of the corn itself. However, believe me, corn husks can increase the strong taste of the cake so that the smell of the cake is very delicious when enjoyed. If you don't have fresh corn, use banana leaves or whatever wrapping you have at home. So, clean the corn husks here by washing them first so that they are clean from any dust that sticks to them.

Creation Procedure

Step 1

Grate the corn until fine, or you can also grind it and blend it until smooth.

Corn lepet is ready to be enjoyed, serve as part of a meal to break the fast or as a dessert for a family gathering. Then look at the color which is very attractive, the natural yellow of corn and don't ask about the aroma, the smell of corn ahhh tempts me. The time to break the fast is still very long, I have to hold it until later when I break the fast.

Yes, I deliberately asked the seller not to peel the corn to make it into a package.

I love these lepet, here in Venezuela they are also made but I have never tried a version with coconut, it sure is very tasty. The ones made here have the same appearance and we call them "bollos".
