Splinterlands - #TPGCHALLENGE: New Player Experience
Hey everyone! Time for another Splinterlands related post, and I'm starting it a bit ahead of schedule because I was actually doing research for this post, I was playing my daughters inactive splinterlands account to see how it's like for a new player, fighting in Bronze League, but... Splinterlands had other idea's!
For this week @thepeoplesguild Challenge, we are challenged to make a post with idea's how to improve the New Player Experience, to find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the post here.
Also a shout out to my guild mate @estebam who just started blogging himself, keep it up!
I've got a number of idea's to improve the overall experience for new players, some have been already brought up in the community, but hopefully it helps if enough people talk about things, so let's get started! 🙂
The problem as of now (and actually since a long time) is not even FINDING new players, it's about keeping them, for some reason players don't even get to the battle part so something is wrong in the experience for sure.
As you can see, all of my affiliates this year signed up, but never bothered to get any further...
#1: We need a free to play version.
This topic had been brought up on several occasions and I think this will really help players get introduced for free, people don't want to rent or buy things right away... get them started after a little tutorial, maybe with some kind of quests or achievements, win 5 times with water, kill 5 monsters with opportunity etc.
As soon as a player comes in and is still in free to play, he or she is able to earn a small amount of glint, so they can experience how it's like to earn and buy cards with the glint. As a teaser it can be displayed how much SPS could have been earned for the win.
Since the reward cards are soulbound there isn't a problem with this I think as it can't be exploited.
#2. We need leagues back.
As a bronze or silver player you don't stand a chance against higher level decks most of the times, and it's not good for the overall experience if you get run over this way, this happens especially in the start of a new season.
This has been mentioned already in the last thepeoplesguild podcast and is a really valid point, especially as Chaos Legion rotates out of modern and a lot of players are forced to play in lower leagues again because it's simply not affordable for them to play in Gold or Diamond.
#3. We need an updated tutorial.
This picture tells enough 😅 The set up is pretty good, it just needs to be updated, this will probably be done after everything has been transferred over to the new client.
#4. Gladiators should be banned from play in at least Bronze (but maybe also in Silver)
Gladiators are just too overpowered in low level play, Quora's heal can't be countered with affliction because there's almost no affliction in lower leagues, also, new players don't own gladiator cards so when they face players who do they can simply use gladiators all the way to power trough the rankings.
The fix for this is simple, just remove the Conscript ability for the summoners for the lower levels.
Two out of these three battles are easily won with Quora (this was just for testing with my daughters account)
This is it for now, let's see if I can get a couple of more wins in Bronze, it's a whole other game, something new for a change!
Thank you for reading!!!
If you haven't made an account already, please consider using my referral link to sign up, I'll happily send the amount I get for your signup back to you in DEC or SPS to help you start.
Have a great day!
Please don't two 2 posts back to back. In fact try not to do more than 1-post/day. It is much harder to vote you if you do.
OK, I won't do it again
Yooo Nozem is back with another TPG challenge! Some great call-outs here dude. Thanks for participating again!
AND i got one of my guild mates in it as well this time, you're growing every week!
I just saw @estebam's post - great work, Nozem! Thanks!
