Norway | A night chasing the Northern Lights π
Hello friends, in the past days, the northern lights have been seen from many European countries, especially Norway is a country where the northern lights are frequently seen and I was able to see it once last year, but since the region we live in is in the southernmost part of Norway, it is not as frequent as it is seen in the north and there is not an intense, green sky as we see on the internet. There is a distance of 1 - 1.30 hours between us and Egersund area. Someone who is living in Egersund, shared a snapshot of the northern lights on Facebook, we immediately set off and drove to high place where we could see our city from the hill. So in short, we went on a hunt for the northern lights in this post, let's start!
After reaching the top of the hill, we saw a red glow in front of us like you can see in the photo and as time passed we hoped that we would be able to see the northern lights from here.
By the way, I got the following information about the northern lights, especially in the southern regions, it is said that they can only be seen from the phone camera. It is not possible to see them with the naked eye. Maybe this situation is different in the northern regions, if anyone has any information, I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me on this topic. Because when I saw it last year, I saw its intense green color from the phone camera, but as I said, it was not visible to the naked eye.
Here, we checked the area where the red color was intense by looking from our phone camera from time to time and started to wait.
This is how the city looked from the hill
After waiting for half an hour in the same spot, this was the clearest photo we could get. While I was preparing the post, I realized that it doesn't look very good on my computer screen, but on my phone I could see a light shade of greenery, but I don't think this was a satisfactory result.
The hill we came from is a spot that people in our city prefer to see the northern lights and everyone must have checked their phone apps because a lot of people came near us and they were waiting to catch this view with us. We had a chat with a Norwegian local and when we showed him this photo he was very surprised and told us that this was really the northern lights. But as I said, this was not a satisfactory result for us and we continued on our way to Egersund by car.
Our journey was quite scary, it was dark everywhere and we set out on this road in an old model antique car, maybe you remember from my old posts, Renault 12 is a 1975 model car and the headlights were yellow and did not light the road very well, as you can see in the photo, we continued our way through the darkness, through the forest road for our curiosity about the northern lights.
Sometimes my husband and I used to play the horror game Outlast and for a moment I thought I was in that game while driving to Egersund π
We came closer to Egersund, where we started looking for a dark, unlit hill where we could see the northern lights comfortably, without light pollution.
We parked our car in a corner in the forest and it was pitch black.
It was similar to what we saw in the first spot, and frankly we were a bit scared because it was in the forest and it was very desolate. We didn't get a satisfactory result here either.
We really wanted to capture a clear view of the northern lights, but unfortunately this time we didn't get as clear a result as we wanted. It was a fun night for us too, we did our best as a team who trying to catch northen lightsπ . The photos are very dark but I hope you had fun while reading.
