Saving The Vulnerable

Legend has it that the most common lie by humans is "I am fine." Whenever we are faced with the question of "How are you?" In most cases, the responds is usually "I am fine," even though deep down in our hearts we know we aren't doing great.

Sometimes we tell these common lies because we do not want to bother others or get them worried about our problems. Looking at it critically, you would realize that we are unconsciously lying to protect others even without intending to. So it won't be out of place to say "as humans, we are naturally designed to lie when it is very necessary."

Yeah, they say "the truth is always bitter," which automatically implies that the lie is always sweet, lol. In the past, I have told some good lies that have saved people's lives and careers, but I would be telling us about a remarkable lie I told a friend of mine that boosted his general wellbeing.

Andrew was barely 22 years of age when the doctors diagnosed him of a possible heart disease. But before the doctors detected this, Andrew had initially told me that he was feeling pains on his chest and on some regions around his back. He told me that he was going to the hospital for check up.

Andrew was very scared of sicknesses and his fear for hospitals and medications was very obvious, as his whole body would be shaking whenever he is being taken to the hospital. Andrew's Dad died of sickness when Andrew was still a little boy and since then when he hears of sickness, he automatically thinks it would result to death.

This fear of his started from childhood, and I was always telling him to chill because sickness doesn't always mean death. When he went for the checkup on the first day, the nurses told him that he was fine but that his blood pressure was a bit high, and that it was not normal for someone of his age.

The nurses told him to come for "blood pressure" check-up every morning, so they could conclude on what steps to take. For straight 7 days, I followed Andrew to the hospital for his checkup, and I observed that his "blood pressure" for each day was always higher than the previous day. This was when I knew my friend must have been struggling with fear every night within these 7 days of checkups.

The nurses made matters worst, as they started telling my friend that High Blood Pressure (High BP) had no cure, and that he could fall down and die at anytime with such a high blood pressure. Andrew started crying because what he feared the most has come to his doorstep.

The doctors came in and tried to intervene, as the took him for some cardiological checkups (heart tests). The doctors came out with the report that they couldn't ascertain the main cause of the High BP in the body of such a young boy, but that they suspected a heart disease.

My friend felt like his end had come and that he would die soon because the doctors told him that he would be on drugs everyday, for the rest of his life to be able to control his blood pressure. We even bought the first does of drugs and headed home.

On our way home, I decided to encourage Andrew and fortunately this was when I told him a lie that changed the general wellbeing of his body. I started speaking like a prophet and a motivational speaker at the same time, lol. I told him that the reason for his High BP was because he was always afraid of sickness, and he told me how I knew and I told him that it was because I had been in exactly the same situation in the past.

Andrew was now more invested in what I had to say because he couldn't imagine himself taking a blood pressure control drug everyday for the rest of his life. I told him that the nurses equally told me that I had heart diseases, but I was healed by eating lots of fruits.

He was excited because he felt I had given him the solution to his problems. He became the best fruit eater in the area, lol. And he was no longer taking afraid of death or sickness, as he even stopped taking those drugs. He became even more active in execercises and healthy practices.

One day he told me that he wasn't feeling those chest and back pains again, and said he even went for his BP checkup recently and it was normal. This was when I realized that maybe our thoughts and negativity play a very great role in our general wellbeing, because ever since Andrew's mentality on sickness changed, he had not fallen sick ever again.

Maybe my lie wasn't a bad one after all, it saves to the life of someone and it equally taught me a valuable lesson to always stay positive in my thoughts.

I appreciate your time around here❤️:-)

Wow, you real saved his life. It might have looked like a lie but it wasn't, you him the truth he was too scared to face himself. A doctor once told me that what kills most people is not really a disease but their fear for the disease and stigmatisation.

You are very correct friend. Fear is really a killer and lots of people do not even realize it. It's really important to stay positive always.
