They Don't Build Them Like They Used To...

My Job...

I'm currently working as a print man. I do everything from designing in Adobe to printing and binding the job afterward. One thing I really like about my shop is the old equipment that is still here. Most of the work we do is done on just one machine that is able to basically do everything. But back in the day, the machines were a lot more... Cool, I guess, is the word I'm looking for....

The machine we do most work on.

This is the Heidelberg.

So Cool...

When I look at the older presses, I'm amazed at the amount of work and knowledge went into running them. The Heidelberg alone has so many adjustments that must be made, it's amazing anyone could learn them all!

Can't Even Do It Anymore...

Sadly, this equipment is no longer able to be run. Some of the aspects of creating the plates are so rare to find now, it's almost impossible to find them. My boss keeps them as tokens nodding to the old days. If he didn't, they would likely be in the scrap yard...

Sad To Think About...
