Why Passion Matters

Have you ever wondered why some people display an ill attitude toward their fellow humans? Have you been a victim of such? Sometimes, the ill attitude could be a character trait in a person, and sometimes it could be that the person found himself or herself in a working environment of which the person has no passion for. Yes, passion, and that's the basis of my reflection today following the experience I have had in the past around this subject matter.

Talking about passion, I will love to relate it with our attitude towards one another around a work environment. Obviously, everyone needs money to survive in our world today, and on the quest to make money, some people somehow find themselves in a type of job they have no passion for, but because they desperately want to make money, nothing else matters; nothing else is considered but to take the offer and fill the pocket at the end of the month. It is worst when the job has to do with dealing with human beings directly.

Through my past experience, I have come to realize that discovering where our passion lies is vital while seeking our daily bread. Firstly, you will be more productive in that area; secondly, you will find ease doing the job without struggling much, but you will discover that once you are in a work environment that isn't your passion but circumstances brought you there, you may find many things uncomfortable; perhaps your attitude may negatively affect people around you or the system you are working for.

I once had health complications nine years ago, and the condition kept me in the hospital for two months. Those days are unforgettable moments of my life. I experienced pains on a daily basis. I had many health personnel who were attending to me at different intervals every day, including at midnight. While most of these health practitioners are compassionate individuals whose words alone bring healing to my spirit, I encountered two of these sets of individuals who were constantly adding to my pain. The manner in which they talked to me each time it was time for them to carry out one procedure or the other was so painful. I used to feel bad when it's their turn to attend to me because of their ill attitude towards me. No form of comforting word for your patient who is passing through pains, but instead harsh words and harsh attention coupled with threats to leave me if I do not cooperate as fast as possible. And I began to think of this set of people to see if they really have passion for their job or just for the salary involved to the detriment of those they are dealing with.

You see, everything shouldn't be about us. Of course, I know that humans are naturally selfish, but I personally feel that we will thrive better working around our passion for our own good and the good of those around us.

Just four days ago, I received a call from a friend who told me about her lost job and the issues surrounding the whole drama. It's still about the passion we are talking about. This lady has been searching for a job for a very long time, and two months ago, she decided to try a teaching job. Somehow, she was hired in a school to teach the primary students.

Obviously, she is smart and intelligent; she can impact knowledge on people, but teaching is definitely not her passion. She knows that, but because of her desperation to secure a job, she forgot to consider that she is an impatient type and also hates to repeat herself while communicating with people, and yet she is seeking a job offer in a school setting where she must be patient with her learners and repeat herself over and over again for them to assimilate the knowledge she is trying to impart. Maybe if she had passion for teaching, it would have been easier for her to work on her weakness; who knows, but what happened was that she unleashed her anger on a child when the child kept asking a particular question repeatedly; unfortunately, she inflicted severe pain on the child in the process. It's a pity! "Passion"—passion is an eighth-letter word that has a great impact in the life of humans. Of course the school and the guardians of the child didn't take her actions lightly. She got her appointment letter terminated and was charged for inflicting pain on an innocent child over a simple question the child asked her.

Do you embrace an offer because you can really do it and do it well or because of your selfish interest? Have you really discovered what you have passion for and kept pursuing it? I have also heard of a story of a young guy who usually plays a guitar in church. He discovered his passion early enough and kept pursuing it, using it to serve the people as well. His level of commitment playing this guitar in his church got one of their members captivated, and he decided to fly the young guy abroad for a greener pasture. You see, it was passion that took him to a better place. He was only doing what he has passion for selflessly; not even monetary rewards were attached, and yet he was serving the church with a high level of commitment with his time and energy. That's the power of passion, and you can hardly go wrong pursuing your passion.

Overall, we will definitely thrive better in life working around our passion for our good and the good of those around us.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I found this very funny. Teaching is not for the weak😂😂

I completely agree with you, ma. Passion is very important when choosing jobs. However, sometimes, it's good to consider that jobs are about more than what you might love doing. Responsibility triumphs passion as you get older, so in some instances when passion doesn't work, you simply consider what job you can tolerate doing. In the current job market and economic crisis, there are many people doing jobs they don't remotely fancy. But man must chop, so...

Hehehe 😃, teaching is not for the weak indeed...I have taught before in a school and can attest to it
Yea..I understand that man must chop... Just that while some people adapt in a job they have no passion for and flow well...some people don't and wouldn't even try to cope and that's why you can see this kind of ill attitude
As for the charge....some parents can go extra mile...I am usually careful while dealing with children because you wouldn't know who us who

I am still thinking if I have any passion. Till now I am in a race and I am just trying to suppressing others. After completing the graduation I didn't set any target and the next possible target is the securing a good job. I think making money in honest way is my one and only passion and I don't care about the way as long as it's ethical.

Seriously, let me talk about how some nurses at the hospitals treat their patients. You can just see that they’re not passionate about the job and you’d see them shouting at patients and insulting them.

Passion is very important in the working space. It’s okay to develop the passion along the line even if you didn’t start with passion.

Exactly...it's okay for one to develop passion along the line... just anything to make your stay in an establishment nice seems better

Kind regards @nkemakonam89
Thank you for presenting us with this theme so frequently in our daily lives generating inputs for collective reflection. From your dissertation, I reflect on my abstractions and I see passion as the emotionality present and alive in my own self, which is reflected and transmuted in my actions generating satisfaction and well-being, if we transfer it to work, it is the enjoyment of doing. A bad attitude and inattentive behavior in a worker can have many causes, among them the lack of sense of belonging and love for what he/she does, as you express, passion. I am a physician and university teacher, I know what you are referring to, because I observe it with concern in certain students during their professional training, due to their inattentive behavior with patients. Unfortunately, there are those who allow themselves to be dazzled by desires that end in failure. The exercise of professions in the field of Health Sciences, in my opinion, requires particular conditions, which translate into a lot of energy and dedication with love and passion, as well as high doses of motivation and vocation of service, but above all sincerity with the self to assimilate and accept what will be their life throughout their existence.
We are glad that your health has been restored and that you are able to share with us your reflections. We thank you for your valuable contributions to our Community, you ennoble us with your presence. Health and well-being !LUV !LADY

Saludos cordiales @nkemakonam89
Salud y bienestar.
