Naija Road Trip

Traveling by road in Nigeria is fun, especially when you travel by public transport. You will get to meet different characters of people in the bus: the serious ones, the funny or entertaining sets of people, and sometimes people who love politics and will give the latest info on what's happening in the Nigerian government. There are some people you will travel with, and you wouldn't want to reach your destination on time. All these and more are fun experiences encountered on public trips.

Though a road trip is the cheapest form of transportation, it can also be really tiring as you would sit for hours with barely any stops or breaks in between, especially with the numerous checkpoints and the bad roads, which add up to the trip being stressful. Nevertheless, you will also be able to pass through different states and get a hint of their culture from afar—another interesting part of the road trip.

I have travelled by road with different experiences and two days ago,I went through a long trip of about 12 hours and more. I had some entertaining people in our bus who made the journey lively and therefore it wasn't much boring to me this time. I boarded vehicle from Enugu state to Lagos state Nigeria by 6:30am through God is good transport system. Unfortunately we left two hours after buying ticket, this was unlike them but glad I arrived my destination safely.

THINGS TO EXPERIENCE USING ROAD TRIP

Traffic: the traffic issues is capable of prolonging your journey. This is caused by the bad roads in our Nigeria road. Ordinarily, I should have spend at most 9 hours to reach my destination but it took me 12 hours due to how bad and uncomfortable the road is.

HAWKERS

If you missed your breakfast before embarking on a journey, these set of people got you covered in terms of all kinds of snacks to keep you going before arriving at the eatery; mostly a place where travellers rest a bit before continuing their journey.

It's one interesting part I love about road trip as I get to buy things I like and at more affordable price unlike the city where I reside .

FRUIT AND FOOD SELLERS

Food and fruits are usually more affordable in some of the states during transit. Because of the price difference, it's becoming a norm for me to always buy them for my family inorder to save cost.

The cost of plantains where I reside is ridiculous. I don't miss taking the advantage of buying it while traveling especially in Edo state.

Garri in bags,(Nigeria food made from cassava)

This state is also known to have a good kind of garri measured in bags. Normally, they transport it to various states and buying from them directly saves costs

Fruits is another thing one can get so fresh and cheaper in some of the villages in between travel.

Different kinds of fresh fruits

The garage is also another place where you get to meet different characters of drivers and passengers who often disagree on one thing or the other. It's always a drama here, all is a fun aspect of the road trip

You will hardly embark on this type of long journey without meeting an accident scene. This is one of the risk in road trip especially with our bad roads and careless drivers

In Conclusion

My recent road trip experience wasn't a bad one. It was exciting if not for the prolonged journey due to traffic. However, I would prefer using road trip once in awhile and make use of other mode of transportation in my subsequent travelling.
